Job Description
Kamehameha Schools is a prestigious educational institution dedicated to serving and strengthening the Native Hawaiian community through academic programs, cultural preservation, and community engagement. Established with a rich history and strong commitment to Hawai‘i’s indigenous people, Kamehameha Schools operates multiple campuses across Hawaii, including the Hawai‘i Campus situated in Keaau. The institution fosters an inclusive, supportive, and dynamic environment where employees are encouraged to utilize their talents and grow professionally while contributing positively to the ʻohana (family) spirit that defines its culture.
Kamehameha Schools is currently seeking four Temporary Athletic Utility Workers to join its Athletics Department at the Hawai‘i Campus. This role offers an excellent opportunity for individuals interested in supporting athletic programs, contributing to student success, and engaging in meaningful work within a vibrant educational setting. These positions are hourly, non-exempt, with a pay range from $20.13 to $26.68 per hour, reflecting salary commensurate with experience, skills, and qualifications. Employees will participate in a variety of tasks supporting the smooth operation of athletic facilities and activities.
The Athletic Utility Worker will provide essential custodial, laundry, mechanical, set-up, and direct student support services for the Athletics Department. Responsibilities include processing uniform inventory, maintaining locker room security and protocol, washing and preparing extensive uniform sets and towels, and assisting with set-up and breakdown of athletic fields and equipment under the supervision of an Athletic Administrator. Additionally, the role involves opening and securing facilities for events, coordinating with users to determine facility needs, and managing equipment logistics such as delivery, cleaning, and inventory control. The position may also require transporting students in Kamehameha Schools-issued vans or buses to sporting events, particularly on the Hawai‘i and Maui campuses.
Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent with a minimum of six months of related work experience. A valid driver’s license is required due to travel expectations and equipment transport. The role demands physical strength to regularly lift and push supplies of up to 50 pounds and the flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Candidates should be skilled in laundry care, including stain removal, and able to follow verbal and written instructions diligently. Certifications in First Aid and CPR are preferred to enhance student safety. This position offers robust physical activity with requirements to stand, walk, lift, bend, and perform various physical tasks regularly.
Working at Kamehameha Schools means joining a community that values respect, cultural heritage, and holistic wellbeing. The Athletics Department plays a crucial role in fostering teamwork, health, and discipline among student athletes. By supporting athletic programs and facilities, Athletic Utility Workers directly contribute to the positive student experience and the overall mission of Kamehameha Schools to nurture capable, confident, and culturally grounded individuals.
Prospective applicants will find Kamehameha Schools to be an employer that not only offers competitive pay and comprehensive benefits but also opportunities for personal and professional growth within a mission-driven organization. The school is committed to providing reasonable accommodations for qualified individuals with disabilities to ensure a diverse and inclusive workplace. Those interested in applying should be prepared to engage in a physically demanding, versatile role that supports the vital functions of the Athletics Department and the broader school community.
