Its mission is to enhance the quality of life for residents by offering diverse recreational opportunities, maintaining safe and well-kept facilities, and fostering an environment where individuals can participate in sports and leisure activities safely and enjoyably. The department also emphasizes the importance of customer service and effective communication to ensure that patrons and participants have positive experiences with each program offering.

This position involves coordinating, marketing, and providing customer service for all year-round and seasonal athletic leagues, tournaments, and special events. The role includes managing cash receipts and deposits, as well as providing essential administrative and coordination support to the Recreation Manager. The incumbent plays a vital role in ensuring that recreation programs run smoothly by performing clerical duties related to recreation programming, athletic leagues, park events, and facility operations. Key responsibilities include creating league schedules and brackets, updating standings, preparing score sheets, and assisting with advertising and marketing programs for athletic activities. Organizing and coordinating local, state, and national tournaments are part of the job, along with monitoring revenue intake, generating invoices, preparing departmental reports, and providing direct customer service to recreation facility patrons and event attendees.

Supervision of recreational activities and events includes discussing rules and regulations with participants, setting up necessary equipment, and assisting in delivering recreation programming. The role might also involve interfacing with media outlets to promote programs. Additional duties could include maintaining recreation facilities and equipment, coordinating scheduling for contractual staff supporting athletic leagues and events, monitoring facility maintenance needs, performing minor repairs, assisting in staff training, and performing other related tasks as assigned.

The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of Parks and Recreation Department policies, municipal recreation programs, customer service standards, facility maintenance principles, and the regulations governing municipal recreation activities. Certifications in First Aid, CPR, and the National Incident Management System (NIMS) are expected within one year of employment, along with possession of a valid Texas Driver's License. The job requires physical activities such as sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders, and lifting up to 50 pounds, and includes exposure to various weather conditions, machinery, chemicals, infectious diseases, and potentially irate members of the public.

This is a full-time position with the City of Tyler, offering a professional work environment committed to equal employment opportunities without regard to race, color, religion, sex, age, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other protected classifications.
