They answer inquiries related to facility rentals and operational hours and act as a primary point of contact for league participants, event attendees, and facility patrons.
In addition to the operational responsibilities, this role requires managing cash receipts and deposits, monitoring revenue, invoicing clients, and compiling reports to track program success and financial integrity. The Athletic Coordinator also plays a vital role in supervising on-site activities during events and games, ensuring adherence to rules and safety protocols. Maintaining positive public relations by responding to participant concerns, assisting with the preparation of registration materials, and coordinating local and larger-scale tournaments is part of the daily workflow.
Candidates for this position should be ready to engage in physical tasks such as lifting equipment, moving supplies, and supporting facility maintenance efforts where necessary. They must also be prepared to work in varied weather conditions typical of outdoor recreation management. Job Requirements
- associate's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- two years experience in municipal athletic programming/operations
- valid Texas Class "C" Driver's License
- ability to work in and around municipal recreation facilities
- capacity to sit, stand, walk, bend, reach, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb ladders, and lift objects up to 50 pounds
- willingness to work in variable weather conditions and handle exposure to machinery, hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, blood-borne pathogens, bodily fluids, and potentially irate public members
Job Qualifications

Job Duties
- provides clerical support in relation to assigned recreation programming, athletic leagues, park events and or facility operations
- creates league schedules/brackets, updating standings, preparing score sheets for athletic leagues, tournaments, and special events
- assists in maintaining/developing advertising and marketing programs for athletic activities and leagues
- answers telephone with rental information, hours of operation and questions concerning the City of Tyler Parks and Recreation fields and facilities
- provides on-site coordination and supervision for city-sponsored athletic leagues/tournaments/special events
- responds to public inquiries regarding the City’s recreation programs, services, and facilities
- assists in addressing and resolving participant complaints as required
- prepares registration materials and information including registration packets, invitations, rosters, flyers, brochures, or other documents
- organizes and coordinates local, state, and national tournaments
- monitors revenue intake for area of assignment
- generates and coordinates monthly client invoicing, league registrations, or miscellaneous income
- compiles data
- prepares/generates various types of departmental reports and documentation
- provides customer service and assistance to recreation facility patrons, league participants or event attendees
- supervises assigned recreational activities, leagues, tournaments, or events
- discusses rules and regulations with parties involved
- sets up equipment required for games and sports practices
- participates and assists in the delivery of recreation programming
- conducts interviews with media outlets about recreation programming
