The role of Assistant Nutrition Services staff member is an essential part of the Nutrition Services team within MNPS. This position is categorized as non-exempt and is part of the MNPS Support Hourly pay grade. The assistant plays a pivotal role in ensuring that meals served to students and faculty are prepared and delivered in a clean, safe environment adhering strictly to health and sanitation guidelines. Responsible for a broad range of kitchen-related duties, the Assistant Nutrition Services professional helps with food preparation tasks including slicing, chopping, and cooking various ingredients. They also engage in maintaining cleanliness by sanitizing kitchen surfaces and equipment and sweeping and mopping floors daily. The role requires attentiveness to preparing serving lines so that food is appropriately arranged and replenished for smooth service. In addition, the assistant interacts with students and teachers in a courteous manner, serving food and responding to any inquiries about food content or nutrition, or directing questions to the appropriate personnel when necessary. Inventory management is another critical responsibility, as the assistant receives supply orders, verifies their accuracy, stores food and supplies properly, and updates inventory records to support uninterrupted kitchen operations. This position is suitable for individuals who have a high school diploma or GED and ideally possess 1 to 3 years of experience in food preparation. The role demands proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking English to effectively carry out job duties and communicate within the team and to customers. Job Duties

  • Performs various semi-skilled kitchen tasks to prepare food for serving
  • cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, counters and tables, mops and sweeps floors daily in compliance with health regulations
  • prepares serving lines by filling steam table wells and arranging pans in correct sequence
  • serves students and teachers appropriate quantities in a friendly manner
  • keeps serving line clean and replenished
  • answers customer inquiries regarding food content or nutritional value or refers to appropriate personnel
  • receives supply orders and verifies quantity ordered/shipped against invoices
  • stores food and supplies upon receipt and updates inventory records to ensure availability of supplies
