This position is for a Nutrition Services Assistant within the MNPS Nutrition Services department, which plays a crucial role in ensuring that healthy and nutritious meals are served to students and staff in compliance with state health and sanitation regulations. As a Nutrition Services Assistant, you will work under the supervision of the manager and assist with various kitchen duties aimed at preparing and serving food in a safe and sanitary environment. Your tasks will include slicing and chopping vegetables, cooking meat and vegetables, mixing pastries, and measuring ingredients according to menu guidelines. You will help maintain cleanliness by sanitizing kitchen equipment, mopping floors, and ensuring serving lines are properly prepared and replenished throughout meal service.
In this role, you will be responsible for serving students and teachers in a friendly manner, addressing questions about food content or nutritional value, and managing inventory by receiving and verifying supply orders. This position is nonexempt, part of the MNPS support hourly grade ladder, and operates 197 days per year, tailored to the academic calendar. Job Duties
- Performs various semi-skilled kitchen tasks to prepare food for serving
- cleans and sanitizes kitchen equipment, counters and tables, mops and sweeps floors daily
- prepares serving lines by filling steam table wells and arranging pans in correct sequence
- serves students and teachers appropriate quantities in a friendly manner
- keeps serving line clean and replenished
- answers inquiries regarding food content or nutritional value or refers to appropriate personnel
- receives supply orders and verifies quantity ordered/shipped against invoices
- stores food and supplies upon receipt and updates inventory records
