The Assistant Nutrition Services position at MNPS plays a critical role in supporting the school nutrition program, which ensures that students and staff receive nutritious and safe meals daily. This full-time, non-exempt role (Job Code: 89600) functions under the supervision of a manager within the Nutrition Services department. The position’s primary responsibility is to assist in the preparation and serving of meals in compliance with established health and sanitation regulations, enabling a clean and safe dining environment for the school community.
This role involves a variety of semi-skilled kitchen tasks such as chopping and slicing vegetables, cooking meats and vegetables, mixing pastries, and measuring ingredients accurately to meet daily menu requirements. Additional duties include maintaining a sanitary workspace by cleaning kitchen equipment, counters, tables, and floors regularly. Assistants prepare serving lines by filling steam table wells and arranging pans correctly, then serve meals in appropriate quantities to students and teachers with a friendly and helpful attitude. The assistant also responds to customer inquiries about nutritional content or directs questions to the appropriate personnel.
Moreover, this position includes logistical responsibilities such as receiving supply orders, verifying shipments against invoices, and updating inventory records to maintain adequate stock levels. The role requires someone who can read, write, and speak English effectively and preferably has 1-3 years of experience in food preparation environments. Job Duties
- Perform various semi-skilled kitchen tasks to prepare food for serving including slicing and chopping vegetables, cooking vegetables and meat, mixing pastries, measuring ingredients
- Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, counters, tables, floors daily in compliance with state health regulations
- Prepare serving lines by filling steam table wells and arranging pans in correct sequence
- Serve students and teachers appropriate meal quantities in a friendly manner
- Keep serving line clean and replenished
- Answer customer inquiries regarding food content or nutritional value or refer to appropriate personnel
- Receive supply orders, verify shipment quantities against invoices, store food and supplies, update inventory records to maintain necessary stock levels
