Job Description

Drake University is recognized as a leading private university in the Midwest, located in Des Moines, Iowa. This midsize institution boasts an increasingly diverse student body and is deeply committed to equity, inclusion, and fostering a sense of belonging for all members of its campus community, including faculty, students, and staff. With more than 900 faculty and staff members known collectively as the Bulldog pack, Drake is a close-knit community dedicated to preparing students to be global citizens and leaders. The university thrives on challenging assumptions while embracing new ideas and people, creating an outstanding learning environment that supports meaningful lives and professional accomplishments for its students.

Drake University's Athletics Department competes at the NCAA Division I level within the Missouri Valley Conference. Known locally as Des Moines’ Hometown Team, Drake Athletics supports student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports. The department culture is defined by a shared value statement called The Bulldog Way, which embodies a commitment to integrity, excellence, mutual support, and a drive for greatness. Coaches, staff, and student-athletes collectively embody this culture, which fosters a strong foundation for academic, athletic, and personal growth.

The role of Assistant Director of Facilities, Events and Operations is an essential position within Drake Athletics, reporting directly to the Director of Facilities and Events. This full-time position involves managing the day-to-day scheduling of athletic facilities for team practices, student groups, and special events. Additionally, the Assistant Director administers and oversees event management, coordinating and supervising event staff for Drake-hosted activities. A critical component of the position is the maintenance and functional management of intercollegiate athletic facilities, ensuring they meet or exceed Division I standards for safety, functionality, and presentation.

The ideal candidate will have a baccalaureate degree and 1-3 years of relevant experience. Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is preferred, alongside the ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and potentially holidays. Responsibilities also include liaising with facility services, maintaining equipment inventory, and assisting in the execution of NCAA and conference championships as well as Drake Sports Camps. This role is fundamental to delivering a championship culture that aligns with the university's mission to support excellence and integrity in athletics and education.

Drake University places strong emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion, encouraging applicants from all backgrounds to apply.
