Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- 1+ years of customer service or healthcare related experience
- intermediate computer proficiency
- ability to travel to other offices for coverage
- ability to be cross trained as a medical assistant or have medical assistant certification
- ability to work between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm including one weekend shift per week
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or higher
- 1+ years of customer service or healthcare related experience
- intermediate level of computer proficiency including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
- ability to be cross trained as a medical assistant or possess current medical assistant certification
- ability to work between 8:00 am to 8:00 pm with one weekend shift per week
- 1+ years experience in medical front office or urgent care setting preferred
- experience working with electronic health records such as Epic preferred
- knowledge of medical terms preferred
- knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans preferred
- bilingual in Spanish and English preferred
- ability to work independently, maintain good judgment and accountability
- ability to multi-task and prioritize
- ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
- excellent verbal and written communication skills
Job Duties
- Greet patients, family members and guests with a friendly smile
- assist patients with signing in and completing registration
- enter and scan patient's demographic and insurance information into Epic
- verify insurance eligibility and benefit information and inform patients of insurance benefits
- collect co-payments and patient balances
- answer incoming phone calls in a courteous and prompt manner and direct calls and take messages
- assist physician and clinical staff by coordinating follow up care for patients, schedule referral appointments for patients and obtain authorization for diagnostic testing
- send patient records to primary care physician
- obtain accurate and updated patient information such as name, address, insurance information
- perform insurance verification on the date of service
- obtain patient signatures for required documents
- confirm and schedule appointments
- adhere to Optum employee policies
- work cohesively with fellow employees to achieve team goals
- assure the continuity of care through scheduling and tracking systems
- comply with administrative policies to ensure quality of care
- demonstrate precision and efficiency in scanning documents and monitoring fax server
- maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and OSHA requirements
- perform other duties as assigned
