Job Description

St. Norbert College (SNC) is a Catholic, Norbertine, and liberal arts institution dedicated to fostering intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth. As the only Norbertine institution of higher learning globally, SNC provides a unique educational environment that integrates strong traditions with a commitment to community values such as dignity, truth, and justice. This foundation ensures a supportive and inclusive workplace that reflects the college's core principle of communio — the Norbertine ideal of a united community. Situated in a vibrant academic setting, the college offers a variety of employment opportunities that align with its mission to enrich the lives of students and staff alike.

Currently, St. Norbert College is seeking motivated individuals to join Ruth's Marketplace in multiple roles including kitchen crew, service staff, and dish room stewards. Ruth's Marketplace is the college's food service venue designed to provide fresh and diverse meal options to the campus community. Employees benefit from flexible scheduling options allowing them to choose their hours, consistent shift patterns, and promising opportunities for career advancement within the food service team.

The Dining Room Worker role entails responsibilities such as setting up and stocking food stations, plating food under the guidance of full-time or lead student staff, monitoring the serving line and dining area during meal service, and assisting guests with food choices. This position demands attentiveness to food safety, sanitation, and guest satisfaction, requiring workers to maintain cleanliness and reconcile food inventory post-service. The role also involves effective communication with customers and coworkers, ensuring a pleasant dining experience for patrons.

Alternatively, the Dish Room Worker focuses on the efficient cleaning and sanitization of dishes, utensils, pots, and pans using industrial dishwashing equipment. This role encompasses rotating through various stations to manage the dish flow, including conveyor belt dishwashing, spray and push stations, and an agitator sink for large cookware. The dish room steward also aids in restocking flatware during peak periods and maintains cleanliness standards following health regulations.

Both roles offer a starting wage of $13.00 per hour, with additional weekend shift differential pay, which translates into excellent compensation for part-time employment, especially for students or community members seeking flexible hours. Alongside competitive pay, Ruth's Marketplace provides a complimentary meal during every shift worked, adding significant value and convenience for employees.

Employment at St. Norbert College’s Ruth’s Marketplace is non-exempt and scheduled for 10 weekly hours, enabling a manageable balance alongside academic or other professional obligations. Regular attendance and participation in college-required training sessions are mandatory, reinforcing compliance with safety, health, and sanitation policies regulated by the college and governmental authorities.

Joining Ruth's Marketplace at St. Norbert College means becoming part of a dedicated team committed to serving quality food in a safe, welcoming environment. The positions are ideal for individuals eager to develop skills in fast-paced food service settings, improve customer service abilities, and contribute to the college community’s daily dining experience. This opportunity not only offers practical experience but also cultivates an inclusive atmosphere where employees can thrive, grow, and advance their careers with the support of an institution rooted in rich tradition and progressive values.
