Job Description

SpartanNash, a proud member of the C&S Wholesale Grocers family of companies, is a dynamic food solutions company that plays a pivotal role in delivering the ingredients for a better life to communities across the United States. As a comprehensive distributor, wholesaler, and retailer, SpartanNash boasts a vast and intricate global supply chain network. This enables the efficient distribution of grocery and household goods, including fresh produce and the well-known Our Family® product portfolio, to a diverse range of locations spanning all 50 states. The company’s commitment to excellence and innovation is embodied by its team members who work across a wide spectrum of roles—from bakery managers, order selectors, IT developers, and vice presidents of finance to HR business partners and export specialists. Collectively, they foster a culture of collaboration and dedication that ultimately results in braggingly happy customers. These customers include national accounts, independent and chain grocers, e-commerce retailers, U.S. military commissaries and exchanges, as well as SpartanNash’s own brick-and-mortar grocery stores, pharmacies, and fuel centers.

SpartanNash is currently seeking an Associate Engagement Coordinator to join their team at their location on 2103 Parkview Ave, Kalamazoo, Michigan. This role is critical to driving the employment life cycle within the assigned store and has a strong focus on cultivating a people-first culture through the creation and execution of internal employee engagement initiatives. The Associate Engagement Coordinator will be deeply involved in supporting multiple facets of store operations, including hiring, orientation, training, safety, compliance, and fostering excellent store communications. The position demands excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, as it is responsible for managing the recruitment process in Workday, from posting jobs and conducting interviews to onboarding new hires. The Coordinator will partner closely with the local HR Business Partner to arrange hiring events and ensure adequate staffing resources.

A major element of this role is ensuring a smooth and positive experience for new hires during their first 90 days, validating training procedures, and driving early-stage retention goals to build a highly engaged team. The role also includes ownership of store engagement programs that recognize employee achievements regularly on a daily, weekly, and periodic basis. Compliance at the store level is another critical responsibility, encompassing timely processing of terminations, I-9 compliance, maintenance of work permits for minors, support for scheduling, and workforce management system reporting.

Additionally, the Associate Engagement Coordinator will manage the associate experience in off-stage store locations such as break rooms, offices, and training spaces. Depending on the volume and need at the store, the Coordinator may also take on scheduling responsibilities as the Person-In-Charge for parts of the weekly schedules. The company values flexibility, so additional responsibilities may be assigned as necessary. This position requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong communication skills, a customer service orientation, and strict attention to detail. The ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and work effectively in a fast-paced, energetic environment is a must.

SpartanNash embraces a People First culture and offers a robust and competitive Total Rewards benefits package to support their employees. The company is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to associate development, fostering open communication, recognizing successes, and promoting a sense of belonging. They welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates, including veterans and individuals with disabilities, while noting they do not sponsor work visas for this position.
