Job Description
The University of Colorado Boulder (CU Boulder) is a prestigious public research university and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU), recognized as one of only 35 U.S. public research institutions in this elite grouping. CU Boulder is renowned for its dynamic academic programs, cutting-edge research, and community outreach initiatives that span Colorado and beyond. The university is deeply committed to fostering an inclusive and collaborative environment that encourages innovation, growth, and the translation of new ideas into real-world impacts. As one of Boulder County's largest employers, CU Boulder offers an inspiring academic community alongside access to world-class outdoor recreational opportunities, making it not only a great place to learn but also to live.
The Enrollment Management division at CU Boulder is currently seeking an Associate Director of Visitor Experience to join their team. This full-time, university staff position based in Boulder, Colorado, offers an annual salary range of $86,100 to $96,000. This role is central to shaping and delivering CU Boulder’s comprehensive suite of on-campus and virtual visit programs, aiming to create memorable experiences that honor the student journey while reflecting the university’s core values. The Associate Director acts as the operational leader for the Visitor Experience team, responsible for translating strategic goals into actionable plans, coaching and managing teams, piloting innovative approaches, and strengthening cross-campus partnerships.
In this role, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of visitor experiences, including major events such as the flagship Admitted Student Day. You will ensure that all programming—from middle school outreach through to admitted student experiences—is inclusive, impactful, and centered on delivering exceptional guest experiences. The position emphasizes operational excellence, strategic event management, data-driven decision-making, and a deep commitment to fostering an environment that welcomes and supports diverse visitors. The associate director will also collaborate extensively with academic units, student services, enrollment marketing, and external community partners to align visitor programming with broader university recruitment and storytelling objectives.
This role demands a highly organized and innovative leader capable of managing complex projects and diverse teams, including supervision of assistant directors, coordinators, and over 120 student ambassadors. The Associate Director will maintain and optimize event workflows using project management tools, coordinate logistics and safety protocols, and ensure visitor experiences meet fiscally responsible standards. The role is also pivotal in developing and maintaining inclusive programming that supports various visitor demographics, including K-12, transfer students, and special populations.
CU Boulder values a culture of care, inclusivity, and continuous improvement, expecting the Associate Director to model these values daily while fostering professional development and operational resilience within their teams. The university offers a hybrid work schedule with one day remote per week, flexible based on needs, and supports the holistic health and well-being of employees through a comprehensive benefits package. This includes medical, dental, retirement plans, paid time off, tuition assistance for employees and their dependents, and local transit passes. CU Boulder encourages applicants from diverse backgrounds, including protected veterans and individuals with disabilities, reflecting its commitment to equal opportunity and nondiscrimination in employment.
