Job Requirements
- high school diploma, secondary education degree or equivalent
- courses or training in safety, environmental, public health and sanitation regulations and procedures
- ability to assist 1-2 waiters servicing a workstation of 16 to 32 seats
- able to carry up to 12 covers on a waiter tray or 16 glasses
- working knowledge of service requirements and styles for all meal periods across various restaurant concepts
- able to work in multicultural environments
- adaptable to schedule changes and deadlines
- able to work 7 days a week
- professional appearance and good hygiene
- respect for co-workers and guests
- positive attitude and behaviors including smiling, being polite and courteous
- ability to live in close quarters and share limited cabin space
- physically able to meet U.S. Coast Guard MMC physical requirements including balance, climbing, lifting, and other specified physical tasks
Job Qualifications
- minimum of two years experience as a front waiter with fine dining and banquet service in 3 to 4 star land-based hotels, free-standing restaurants with at least 180 seats, or similar shipboard experience
- minimum two years experience selling and serving wine and other beverage products
- intermediate to advanced English verbal and written skills including proper grammar use
Job Duties
- assist with achieving departmental guest satisfaction targets and food and beverage revenues by following established service strategies and optimizing up-sell opportunities
- perform other related duties as assigned or as directed
- be familiar with the Safety and Environmental Protection Policy and SEMS and carry out policies and procedures appropriate to the position
- ensure assigned station is properly set up with required china, glassware, silverware and mis-en-place prior to service
- comply with sequence of service for food and beverage
- follow lead/instructions of waiters to ensure timely service
- resolve any service or product deficiencies to ensure guest satisfaction
- ensure assigned station is cleaned and set up at the end of meal period
- complete all assigned side-work
- man non-cooking buffet action stations such as carving or dessert stations
- deliver food and beverage orders to guest's staterooms
- deliver amenities to guest's staterooms
- assist with private parties and functions
- field guest phone orders and handle according to procedures
- clear service trays from staterooms, corridors and pantries in a timely manner
