The Assistant Bakery Operations Manager (ABOM) role at Insomnia Cookies is a critical leadership pipeline position designed to cultivate the next generation of Bakery Operations Managers. Located at the New Haven store on 240-242 College St, New Haven, CT, the ABOM is expected to operate with urgency, accuracy, and accountability, handling near-BOM level responsibilities while developing the leadership skills necessary to independently run a bakery. This role is a blend of hands-on operational leadership, talent development, team management, and administrative responsibility.

The ABOM supports the Bakery Operations Manager (BOM) by executing core bakery functions such as inventory rotation, staff scheduling, coordinating staffing needs, and managing administrative duties. Strict adherence to product quality, cleanliness, food safety, and guest experience standards is paramount. The ABOM also supports inventory accuracy, shrink control, and labor management by assisting in schedule creation and labor execution to meet operational goals.

In addition to operational tasks, the ABOM plays a vital role in recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and training new staff members. They provide consistent coaching and real-time feedback, fostering a culture of growth and accountability within their team. The ABOM ensures all onboarding and training programs meet the company's standards and holds team members accountable while promoting a positive and productive workplace environment.

Leadership responsibilities include managing bakery operations independently in the absence of the BOM, modeling urgency and operational discipline, and collaborating with BOM and Area leadership to identify and address operational gaps. The ABOM ensures continuity of operations during leadership transitions or staffing shortages and is ready to step into full bakery ownership when needed.

Success in this role is demonstrated by the ABOM's ability to execute all BOM-level tasks independently, maintain a fully staffed and trained bakery operating at high standards, uphold a strong culture of accountability and consistency, act as a reliable operational leader in any coverage scenario, and exhibit clear readiness for upward mobility into the BOM role.

This position offers competitive pay ranging from $20.00 to $22.00 per hour plus bonus eligibility, along with medical, dental, vision, and pet insurance. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year leadership experience in restaurant, retail, or hospitality operations
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform physical tasks associated with bakery operations
  • Reliable transportation to the New Haven store location

Job Qualifications

  • 1+ year leadership experience in restaurant, retail, or hospitality operations

Job Duties

  • Execute all core bakery operations including inventory rotation, scheduling support, staffing coordination, and administrative checklists
