Job Description

Kroger is a leading retail company known for its commitment to providing customers with a superior shopping experience through high-quality products and exceptional customer service. As one of the largest supermarket chains in the United States, Kroger operates numerous stores across various regions, offering a wide range of groceries, household products, and services. The company prides itself on fostering a work environment that values respect, honesty, integrity, diversity, inclusion, and safety. These core values guide its operations and interactions with both customers and employees alike.

This role as an Assistant Store Manager at Kroger is pivotal in supporting store operations and ensuring the overall success of the retail establishment. The position involves comprehensive involvement in managing key store functions, including human resources, scheduling, security, maintenance, safety, sanitation, ordering, and administrative duties. The Assistant Store Manager shares responsibility with the Store Manager for the store's performance in all operational areas, playing a critical role in driving sales growth, managing budgets, enhancing customer service, and maintaining compliance with company policies and legal regulations.

In this role, the Assistant Store Manager is expected to lead and inspire teams by fostering a customer-focused culture and ensuring associates are motivated and equipped to deliver outstanding service. This includes assisting in planning, implementing, and executing merchandising and operating initiatives that align with Kroger's best-in-class reputation. By collaborating with department heads and store associates, the Assistant Store Manager identifies opportunities for improvement, develops actionable plans, and drives solutions to meet and exceed sales, profit, and safety goals.

The role also involves acting as the store’s leader in the absence of the Store Manager, managing total store operations to ensure smooth and efficient functioning. This includes labor and supply cost management, scheduling, and staffing to reduce turnover and increase retention while providing timely feedback to associates and department heads about performance. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for fostering an inclusive work environment by demonstrating and expecting inclusive behaviors from all associates.

Further responsibilities include building strong relationships with local community organizations to promote the store's presence and support community engagement. For stores under collective bargaining agreements, the Assistant Store Manager assists in maintaining productive and proactive relationships with union representatives and business agents. They serve as a communication liaison between store teams and district management to ensure the effectiveness of merchandising and operational plans.

Overall, the Assistant Store Manager role at Kroger requires a dynamic individual who is capable of multitasking in a fast-paced retail environment, demonstrating leadership, problem-solving skills, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction and regulatory compliance. This role offers opportunity for career growth within a reputable and customer-centric retail corporation, emphasizing both operational excellence and team development.
