Job Description
Bellevue College is a dynamic, student-focused institution located just 10 miles east of Seattle, serving one of the most diverse student populations in Washington State. The college is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace where employees are valued and empowered to grow professionally. Bellevue College Food Services operates multiple retail food outlets, including a food truck, two cafes, and a cafeteria on campus, offering a variety of high-quality food and beverage options to students, faculty, and staff. These services aim to provide a welcoming and convenient experience while adhering to high standards of food safety, cleanliness, and customer service.
The Assistant Retail Manager position at Bellevue College Food Services plays a critical role overseeing all retail food service locations and their employees. This full-time, regular position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from $3,736 to $4,977, with benefits provided through Washington State plans that include medical, dental, life and disability coverage for employees and dependents, as well as retirement and deferred compensation options. The work schedule consists of 40 hours per week, and the position is classified as overtime eligible.
In this role, the Assistant Retail Manager is responsible for ensuring operational excellence across multiple food service venues on campus. Key duties include developing and maintaining cleanliness and product display standards, providing comprehensive training on equipment use such as espresso machines and point of sale systems, cash handling procedures, and safety protocols. The position requires managing inventory, placing orders, inspecting food and supply deliveries, and managing cash tills to ensure accurate financial records and compliance with policies.
The Assistant Retail Manager is also charged with training and supervising retail staff, including both permanent employees and student workers. This includes creating and posting employee schedules, assigning and reviewing work, adjusting assignments in response to fluctuating workloads, and recommending corrective actions or additional training as needed. The manager fosters an environment of continuous improvement by providing ongoing coaching and feedback to promote optimum job performance.
Food safety is paramount in this role, requiring the Assistant Retail Manager to enforce regulations and ensure proper sanitation practices, equipment maintenance, and temperature controls at all retail locations. The role also involves collaboration with the kitchen and events staff to coordinate catering and other food service needs.
This position requires effective organizational skills, communication abilities, and a collaborative approach to leadership. The Assistant Retail Manager must possess relevant food service management experience and certifications, including a King County Food Handler's Permit and a valid Washington Driver's License. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is essential, as is the ability to work inclusively with colleagues and students in a diverse college environment.
Overall, the Assistant Retail Manager is a key leadership position within Bellevue College Food Services, dedicated to providing outstanding customer service and maintaining high operational standards that contribute to the vibrant campus community.
