Job Description

This job posting is for a restaurant managed and operated by an independent franchisee, not by Jack in the Box Inc. As such, if you are hired, your employer will be the independent franchisee, who is responsible for all employment-related matters at the restaurant, including but not limited to setting job requirements, handling hiring and firing decisions, disciplinary actions, wages, supervision, staffing, and scheduling. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, fast-paced restaurant environment with a strong emphasis on teamwork, customer service, operational excellence, and leadership development.

The role in question is primarily responsible for managing restaurant operations, either alongside or in the absence of the Restaurant Manager. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring the execution of the Service Profit Chain and upholding the Brand Promise. The position demands a hands-on leader who can drive excellent internal service by developing and inspiring the restaurant team, fostering a positive work environment, and building talent internally. Equally important is the delivery of outstanding guest experiences through training and oversight of the restaurant team to maintain consistent food quality, exceptional service, and compliance with all health, safety, and operational standards.

In addition to service excellence, the role focuses heavily on business performance. This includes using management information tools to analyze operational and financial data, identifying trends, and collaborating with management to implement action plans that elevate sales and profitability. The assistant manager must effectively manage costs, adhere to budgets, and protect the brand by making informed financial decisions.

Core qualified candidates typically have a high school diploma or GED, with preference given to those holding an associate's or bachelor's degree. Experience requirements differ based on internal promotion or external recruitment; internal candidates should have at least one year of relevant leadership experience within the restaurant, while externally recruited candidates are expected to have a minimum of three years’ assistant management experience with some profit and loss responsibility. Certifications such as ServSafe and completion of assistant manager training are mandatory.

Strong interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to communicate clearly and effectively. The candidate must be proficient in basic math, analytical thinking, planning, and organization, and exhibit a self-starter attitude with integrity and ethical behavior. Physical requirements include standing and walking for the majority of the shift, ability to lift moderate weight, and operate restaurant equipment and computers. A valid driver’s license with insurance is also needed for banking and travel-related duties.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent required
  • associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
  • minimum 1+ years experience as shift leader or assistant manager for internal promotion candidates
  • minimum 3 years assistant manager experience with P&L responsibility for external recruits
  • must be 100% certified in all workstations
  • completion of assistant manager training classes required
  • ServSafe certification mandatory
  • proficient in English communication
