Job Description

This job posting is for a managerial position at a restaurant owned and operated by an independent franchisee, separate from Jack in the Box Inc. This means that the employment relationship is directly with the franchisee, who is responsible for all employment matters such as hiring, firing, discipline, wages, supervision, staffing, and scheduling. The establishment is a restaurant that operates under the Jack in the Box brand yet is independently managed and operated, offering a dynamic work environment focused on customer service and operational excellence.

The role primarily involves managing restaurant operations in the absence or conjunction with the Restaurant Manager. The manager uses discretion to make daily operational decisions with a strong focus on executing the Service Profit Chain (SPC) and upholding the Brand Promise, which emphasizes excellent internal service, outstanding guest service, building sales, and ensuring compliance with policies and regulatory requirements. This is a critical leadership role aimed at fostering a positive and productive restaurant environment while driving profitability and customer satisfaction.

Key responsibilities include recruiting, selecting, training, developing, and evaluating restaurant staff. The role demands monitoring staffing levels to ensure adequate development and talent retention and ensuring that employees are fully trained on all workstations. The manager creates a workplace atmosphere that is friendly, fun, clean, and safe, motivating employees to perform at high levels while adhering to company procedures and values. Fostering respect and care for employees is vital, as is inspiring and recognizing team members appropriately.

Externally, the manager ensures that guests receive exceptional experiences by maintaining high standards in food quality, guest service, restaurant cleanliness, and safety. This involves managing daily activities that meet operational excellence and holding the team accountable for consistently delivering on these standards. Responsiveness to guest concerns and maintaining a positive brand image ties into the role’s external service focus. As a role model, the manager leads by example to uphold superior guest service.

The position requires partnership with the Restaurant Manager to analyze operational and financial performance data on a regular basis. This includes reviewing income and expense reports, quality and service reports, health inspections, and HACCP standards, among others. Identifying trends and implementing action plans for sales growth and profitability are essential, along with monitoring costs and adherence to budget and restaurant goals.

The position requires a focus on fostering a positive culture through integrity, honesty, trust, and ethical standards. Strong communication and management skills under pressure are necessary, along with the ability to train, coach, and develop employees for promotion. The manager must possess a passion for guest service and be adaptable to change while maintaining an organized and detail-oriented approach to business management. A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a preference for associate’s or bachelor’s degrees, and significant experience in managing a customer service environment is expected.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma, G.E.D., or equivalent required
  • associate's or bachelor's degree preferred
  • minimum 1+ years experience as a Shift Leader or 1 year as Assistant Manager for internal promotion
  • minimum 3 years experience as an Assistant Manager for external recruit
  • must be 100% certified in all workstations for internal promotion
  • must complete Assistant Manager training classes
  • ServSafe certified
  • excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • ability to perform basic math
  • proven analytical and planning skills
  • working knowledge of personal computers and software
  • valid driver’s license and use of personal vehicle
  • demonstrates integrity and ethical behavior
