Job Description
Sweetgreen is a prominent national restaurant brand committed to building healthier communities by connecting people to real food. Established in 2007, Sweetgreen has revolutionized the fast-food industry by providing fresh, flavorful options rooted in strong relationships with farmers and local communities. The company emphasizes sustainability and wellness, sourcing ingredients that are organic and environmentally conscious while fostering a culture of inclusivity and professional growth among its employees. Sweetgreen operates numerous locations across the United States, continually expanding its footprint while maintaining its dedication to quality and customer satisfaction.
The role of Assistant Coach, also known as Assistant General Manager, is a pivotal leadership position within Sweetgreen’s team structure. As an Assistant Coach, you will act as a strategic partner to the Head Coach (General Manager), playing an essential role in the day-to-day operations of the restaurant. This position demands strong leadership skills, a hands-on approach, and the ability to inspire and mentor team members to become the future leaders of the company. The Assistant Coach ensures operational excellence through effective management of staff, adherence to food safety standards, and commitment to delivering exceptional guest experiences.
This role balances multiple responsibilities including staff hiring, onboarding, and training while fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. You will be instrumental in anticipating operational needs and adjusting staffing and resources accordingly, especially during busy periods or unexpected absences. By upholding strict food safety, cleanliness, and maintenance protocols, you will contribute to a safe and welcoming environment for both guests and employees.
Guest experience is a core focus of the Assistant Coach role, requiring you to maintain high standards of hospitality and brand alignment while acting on guest feedback and operational metrics. You will collaborate closely with the Head Coach to set goals, monitor performance through data-driven insights, and implement strategies that enhance sales and improve service quality. Financial acumen is also necessary to effectively control costs, optimize scheduling, and support the restaurant’s long- and short-term business plans.
Furthermore, proficiency in technology and systems is critical to streamline daily operations and improve efficiency. The Assistant Coach role demands a balance of leadership, operational savvy, and customer service excellence to help Sweetgreen succeed in its mission of connecting people to real food and healthier lifestyles.
Sweetgreen offers a competitive salary for this role, typically ranging from $65,000 to $75,000 annually, plus a 15% bonus potential. The position requires availability to work a minimum of 30 hours per week and offers extensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid vacation and wellness time, a 401(k) program, paid family leave, and more. This is an outstanding opportunity for motivated individuals who are passionate about food, community, and professional growth within a popular and fast-growing fast casual restaurant company.
