The role of Applebee's Assistant Manager is a key position responsible for the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, ensuring an exceptional experience for both guests and staff. The Assistant Manager is expected to foster a positive, energetic environment where teammates are passionate about delivering quality service every day. This position requires strong leadership skills, problem-solving capabilities, and the ability to maintain composure under pressure. As part of the leadership team, the Assistant Manager is tasked with ensuring friendly and timely service in line with company standards, responding promptly and effectively to guest concerns, and maintaining a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. Emphasis is placed on cultivating a team culture based on Flynn Applebee's Premier Card and its deeply held values. The role includes responsibilities such as managing inventory, scheduling staff to meet sales demands, overseeing product quality and presentation, enforcing safety and sanitation standards, and upholding compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

The Assistant Manager also plays an essential role in recruiting and training new team members and managers, supporting their professional development through ongoing evaluation and feedback. The position demands versatility, with responsibilities that include hands-on roles in various restaurant functions, from cooking to bartending, to support the team as needed. This position typically requires candidates to have a minimum of 2-3 years of restaurant management experience, with certifications such as Serve Safe Food and Serve Safe Alcohol being advantageous. The physical demands of the job include working variable shifts, standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and possessing the dexterity to use tools and equipment efficiently. Job Requirements

  • Ability to work various shifts ranging in hours, including weekends
  • ability to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to ten hours in length
  • ability to safely lift pots, pans, glassware, boxes, etc. up to 50 pounds in weight
  • ability to read and write to facilitate communication
  • must possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years restaurant management experience
  • Serve Safe Food and Serve Safe Alcohol certifications are a plus

Job Duties

  • Ensures timely, friendly service according to company guidelines, achieving established objectives of the unit
  • cultivates a culture in accordance with Flynn Applebee's Premier Card of core values and beliefs
  • ensures the immediate response and correction of all verbal guest complaints to self and staff
  • ensures guest contact as a priority with completion of required table visits established by Flynn Applebee's standards
  • maintains departmental inventory levels
  • ensures product preparation and presentation uncompromisingly meet company standards by performing line checks
  • effectively schedules employees to meet sales demands
  • maintains effective safety and security programs
  • promotes and leads restaurant organization, cleanliness and sanitation
  • performs routine maintenance and immediately reports to the General Manager/Area Director of needed repairs
  • promotes quality recruitment and referrals of potential team member and management candidates
  • promotes Flynn Applebee's training procedures for new managers
  • helps maintain a trained staff through effective use of employment orientation, individual training sessions, employee meetings and implementation of company policy and training systems
  • participates in the constant development of employees using One-on-One and performance documentation, and contributes to the completion of written evaluations
  • assesses the efficiency of employees, provides fair feedback on a regular basis, and continuously works with employees on their areas of development
  • monitors acceptable employee performance and documents situations that require or could lead to disciplinary or corrective action
  • assures compliance with company policies, practices and procedures
  • responsible for controlling cost in assigned department
  • compliance with local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines
  • drives bi-weekly/weekly food and liquor inventories at the AD/GM's request and is accountable for completion
  • responsible for preparing and submitting accurate daily paperwork
  • assures sanitation standards meet or exceed Health Department and Flynn Applebee's standards
  • provides a role model for managers and employees
  • develops self on all store related technology
  • must be willing and able to work in all positions and assist in a team member position as needed when in a restaurant
  • uses the Management Development Program for continuous growth of leadership skills and proficiencies
