Job Description
Flynn Group, established by Greg Flynn in 1999, began its journey with the acquisition of eight Applebee's restaurants. Over the past two decades, the company has grown through the strategic development of new stores and the acquisition of other franchise operators, becoming the largest Applebee's franchisee worldwide. This solid foundation has enabled Flynn Group to diversify its portfolio beyond Applebee's, expanding into multiple brands, industries, and countries. Today, Flynn Group operates over 460 Applebee's restaurants across 24 U.S. states, showcasing its significant footprint in the restaurant industry.
Flynn Applebee's is a key brand within the Flynn Group, which operates as the largest franchise operator globally. The company manages a diverse array of world-class, iconic brands across various segments, including Applebee's, Arby's, Panera Bread, Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, Wendy's, and Planet Fitness. Flynn Group's core mission is to be the premier operator within each brand, driven by core values that emphasize genuine care for people, competitive spirit, and unified teamwork under the motto: Care Genuinely for People, Play like a Champion, and Win as One.
The role of Applebee's Assistant Manager is integral to the successful day-to-day operations of each restaurant. This position demands a committed team leader who is passionate about creating an exceptional guest and staff experience. Responsibilities cover operational management, meeting company standards for service, food quality, safety, and sanitation, as well as fostering a positive workplace culture aligned with Flynn Applebee’s core values.
Assistant Managers engage with guests to ensure their satisfaction, promptly address any complaints, and oversee departmental inventory and scheduling to meet sales demands effectively. They help maintain safety programs, cleanliness, security, and supervise repairs through communication with higher management.
Leadership development is a crucial aspect of this role. Assistant Managers are involved in recruiting and training new team members and management candidates, facilitating ongoing employee development through performance reviews, coaching, and implementing company policies. They are expected to lead by example, participating in all restaurant positions as needed, including cooking, bartending, and hosting to foster teamwork and operational efficiency.
This position requires someone who can thrive under pressure, solve problems effectively, and maintain a high standard of quality control through routine line checks and adherence to health and company standards. Assistant Managers are also accountable for accurate paperwork, managing costs, and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws.
To excel in this role, candidates typically have two to three years of restaurant management experience, with certifications such as Serve Safe Food and Serve Safe Alcohol considered advantageous. Physical stamina and flexibility to work varied shifts, including weekends, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and handle manual tasks are essential.
Joining Flynn Group means becoming part of a premier team dedicated to excellence in the restaurant industry, with opportunities for professional growth and development through structured management programs and supportive leadership. Flynn Group also emphasizes diversity and inclusion, ensuring a welcoming environment with accommodations available for individuals with disabilities throughout the application and employment process.
