The role of an Applebee's Assistant Manager is a dynamic and crucial position within this expansive organization. This role requires active involvement in every aspect of the restaurant's daily operations. As an Assistant Manager, you will be expected to foster enthusiasm and commitment among both guests and team members, ensuring an outstanding experience for all who walk through the doors. The Assistant Manager’s responsibilities are extensive and diverse, ranging from ensuring friendly, timely customer service in line with company standards to maintaining a safe and clean workplace. You will play a pivotal role in cultivating a positive culture based on Flynn Applebee's core values, quickly addressing and resolving guest concerns, and managing inventory levels to meet operational needs. Scheduling and staffing efficiently to meet sales demands while upholding rigorous food preparation standards are also key parts of the role.

Additionally, the Assistant Manager supports the recruitment process by promoting quality hiring practices and training new team members to align them with the company’s policies and service expectations. Employee development is another cornerstone of the position, involving regular performance reviews, coaching, and documentation to foster growth and accountability. Compliance with health, safety, and sanitation standards is mandatory to maintain the restaurant's excellent reputation and meet regulatory requirements.

This position also entails operational responsibilities such as driving inventory audits, managing cost controls, submitting accurate daily paperwork, and overseeing maintenance issues. Flexibility is essential, as Assistant Managers must be ready and able to assist with various tasks across different roles within the restaurant, including cooking, bartending, seating guests, and exposure shifts.

Ideal candidates will have at least two to three years of restaurant management experience and, while not mandatory, Serve Safe Food and Serve Safe Alcohol certifications are highly valued.

Job Requirements

  • Ability to work various shifts including weekends
  • Ability to stand and exert well-paced mobility for up to ten hours
  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to read and write to facilitate communication
  • Possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years restaurant management experience
  • Serve Safe Food and Serve Safe Alcohol certifications a plus

Job Duties

  • Ensures timely friendly service according to company guidelines achieving established objectives of the unit
  • Cultivates a culture in accordance with the Flynn Applebee's Premier Card of core values and beliefs
  • Ensures the immediate response and correction of all verbal guest complaints to self and staff
  • Ensures guest contact as a priority with completion of required table visits established by Flynn Applebee's standards
  • Maintains departmental inventory levels
  • Ensures product preparation and presentation uncompromisingly meeting company standards by performing line checks
  • Effectively schedules employees to meet sales demands
  • Maintains effective safety and security programs
  • Promotes and leads restaurant organization cleanliness and sanitation
  • Performs routine maintenance and immediately reports to the General Manager or Area Director of needed repairs
  • Promotes quality recruitment and referrals of potential team member and management candidates
  • Promotes Flynn Applebee's training procedures for new managers
  • Helps maintain a trained staff through effective use of employment orientation individual training sessions employee meetings and implementation of company policy and training systems
  • Participates in the constant development of employees using One-on-One and performance documentation and contributes to the completion of written evaluations
  • Assesses the efficiency of employees provides fair feedback on a regular basis and continuously works with employees on their areas of development
  • Monitors acceptable employee performance and documents situations that require or could lead to disciplinary or corrective action
  • Assures compliance with company policies practices and procedures
  • Responsible for controlling cost in assigned department
  • Compliance with local state and federal laws regulations and guidelines
  • Drives bi-weekly or weekly food and liquor inventories at the AD or GM's request and is accountable for completion
  • Responsible for preparing and submitting accurate daily paperwork
  • Assures sanitation standards meet or exceed Health Department and Flynn Applebee's standards
  • Provides a role model for managers and employees
  • Develops self on all store related technology
  • Must be willing and able to work in all positions and assist in a team member position as needed when in a restaurant this includes cooking on the line expo seating guests bartending etc
  • Uses the Management Development Program for continuous growth of leadership skills and proficiencies
