Job Description
Jack in the Box is a well-established fast-food restaurant brand known for its broad menu offering, quick service, and commitment to guest satisfaction. This particular restaurant is owned and operated by an independent franchisee, meaning employment, management, and operational decisions are handled locally by the franchise owner rather than by the corporate entity. The franchisee is responsible for all aspects of employment, including hiring, firing, wages, discipline, supervision, and staffing. This localized management allows for a more personalized and community-focused business operation while still aligning with Jack in the Box’s overall brand standards and cultural values.
The Restaurant Assistant Manager role is a pivotal leadership position designed to support or stand in for the Restaurant Manager in overseeing the day-to-day running of the establishment. This includes ensuring the restaurant operates smoothly, maintaining high levels of customer service, and promoting a positive working environment for all team members. The Assistant Manager is responsible for enforcing policies and regulatory compliance, managing internal and external service quality, and driving sales growth and profitability. Acting as a role model for employees, the Assistant Manager fosters a fun, friendly, clean, and safe restaurant atmosphere while inspiring staff to reach their highest potential.
In this role, the Assistant Manager plays a critical part in recruiting, training, and developing employees, ensuring they are fully certified and capable of fulfilling their roles. They also manage the team’s performance by motivating, monitoring, and providing necessary coaching and recognition. The role demands effective use of internal systems and tools to improve operations continuously, enhance guest experience, and meet financial targets. Problem resolution, communication, and teamwork are key components in maintaining positive guest relations and employee morale.
The position requires a strong commitment to business ethics, integrity, and high ethical standards, consistent with the brand’s values such as honesty, respect, and trust. The candidate must be adaptable, capable of managing change and ambiguity, and maintain composure under pressure. Essential competencies include customer focus, problem-solving abilities, leadership courage, and the capacity to build and develop effective teams.
Candidates should have a high school diploma or equivalent, with associate or bachelor’s degree preferred. Experience varies by candidate status; internal promotions require at least one year in leadership roles within a customer service environment, whereas external candidates need a minimum of three years of assistant management experience with some profit and loss responsibility. Certification such as ServSafe and completion of Assistant Manager training classes are mandatory. Communication skills, basic math ability, analytic thinking, and organizational skills are essential, as well as a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate restaurant equipment and computers.
Physical demands include standing and walking most of the shift, lifting moderate weights, and performing various operational tasks throughout the restaurant. The role also involves occasional travel to other restaurant locations or business sites for deposits and meetings.
Overall, this job offers a unique opportunity to grow within a respected foodservice brand while being deeply involved in both operational and team leadership aspects. The independent franchise setting promotes entrepreneurial spirit and individual impact within the framework of a nationally recognized brand. This employment is governed specifically by the franchisee, promising a collaborative yet challenging workplace environment where leadership and operational skills are highly valued and rewarded.
