The role of Applebee's Assistant Manager is a vital position within the Flynn Applebee's operations. This is a full-time position with competitive compensation ranging from $19 to $23.50 per hour, equivalent to approximately $54,340 to $67,200 annually based on a 50-hour workweek, along with the potential for monthly bonuses depending on location. The Assistant Manager is deeply engaged in all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, ensuring that every guest and team member has an exceptional experience. They are entrusted with fostering a positive, energetic atmosphere, leading by example, and efficiently managing the team.

Assistant Managers are expected to be outstanding team leaders and distinguished problem solvers who can handle stress with resilience. The role requires a strong commitment to service excellence and operational standards, including overseeing timely and friendly service, promptly addressing and resolving guest complaints, maintaining high standards of cleanliness and sanitation, and ensuring compliance with all relevant laws and regulations. Assistant Managers play an integral role in employee development, including recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and motivation to ensure a thriving work environment.

This position also demands hands-on involvement in restaurant operations such as cooking on the line, seating guests, bartending, and assisting wherever needed. The Assistant Manager will utilize the company's Management Development Program to continually hone leadership skills and elevate operational performance. Physical capabilities such as standing for up to ten hours during shifts, lifting items up to 50 pounds, and working varied hours including weekends are required.

Job Requirements

  • At least a high school diploma or equivalent
  • 2-3 years of restaurant management experience
  • ability to work various shifts including weekends
  • capacity to stand and move for up to 10 hours
  • ability to safely lift 50 pounds
  • good reading and writing skills
  • finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment
  • willingness to work in multiple restaurant roles
  • Serve Safe certifications preferred but not required

Job Qualifications

  • At least 2-3 years restaurant management experience
  • Serve Safe Food certification is a plus
  • Serve Safe Alcohol certification is a plus

Job Duties

  • Ensures timely, friendly service according to company guidelines, achieving established objectives of the unit
  • cultivates a culture in accordance with Flynn Applebee's core values and beliefs
  • ensures the immediate response and correction of all verbal guest complaints to self and staff
  • ensures guest contact as a priority with completion of required table visits
  • maintains departmental inventory levels
  • ensures product preparation and presentation uncompromisingly meeting company standards by performing line checks
  • effectively schedules employees to meet sales demands
  • maintains effective safety and security programs
  • promotes and leads restaurant organization, cleanliness and sanitation
  • performs routine maintenance and reports needed repairs
  • promotes quality recruitment and referrals of potential team members and management candidates
  • promotes Flynn Applebee's training procedures for new managers
  • helps maintain a trained staff through employment orientation, individual training sessions, employee meetings and implementation of company policy and training systems
  • participates in employee development using one-on-one and performance documentation and contributes to written evaluations
  • assesses employee efficiency, provides fair feedback regularly, and works on their areas of development
  • monitors employee performance and documents situations requiring disciplinary or corrective action
  • assures compliance with company policies, practices and procedures
  • responsible for controlling cost in assigned department
  • ensures compliance with local, state and federal laws, regulations and guidelines
  • drives bi-weekly/weekly food and liquor inventories as requested
  • prepares and submits accurate daily paperwork
  • assures sanitation standards meet or exceed Health Department and company standards
  • provides a role model for managers and employees
  • develops self on all store related technology
  • willing and able to work in all positions and assist in a team member position as needed
  • uses the Management Development Program for continuous growth of leadership skills and proficiencies
