As an Assistant Kitchen Manager at Flix Brewhouse, you will play a crucial role in leading and managing the daily operations of the kitchen, often referred to as the Heart of House. This is a full-time position that requires a dynamic individual who can inspire and supervise a team of hourly kitchen staff members. You will serve as the Kitchen Manager on Duty (KMOD) in the absence of the Kitchen Manager, ensuring smooth operations and maintaining high standards of food quality, safety, and presentation. The role encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including filling cooking positions during busy periods, conducting regular line checks, and acting as the lead expeditor during peak business hours. The Assistant Kitchen Manager will also be involved in mentoring and coaching staff to promote growth and maintain a motivated workforce.

Success in this role requires certification in food handling and alcohol service, such as Serve Safe, and solid experience within the restaurant industry. Being self-motivated, positive, and passionate about hospitality is essential, along with excellent teamwork and leadership skills. The ability to foster emerging talent, ensure compliance with safety and sanitation standards, and demonstrate advanced cooking and knife handling expertise is critical. This position demands physical stamina, including the ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods, as well as strong communication skills in English. Bilingual candidates with proficiency in Spanish, especially those who can instruct ESL Spanish-speaking staff, are highly valued. Job Duties

  • Supervise hourly kitchen team members
  • serve as Kitchen Manager on Duty in absence of Kitchen Manager
  • fill cooking positions as needed
  • oversee time management of hourly kitchen staff including breaks and shifts
  • act as lead expeditor during rush periods
  • guide and mentor kitchen team members
  • maintain personnel files for kitchen staff
  • ensure high levels of food quality, presentation, and cost control
  • manage all day-to-day Back of House operations
  • maintain on-hand inventory at par levels
  • expedite during peak periods and assist in maintaining low ticket times
  • follow recipe and product specifications for food preparation
  • supervise recipe adherence during shifts
  • operate various kitchen equipment safely
  • control food waste and losses according to company policies
  • assist in maintaining sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen and Back of House areas
  • set and verify daily par lists
  • prepare food according to guest specifications
  • assist in banquet food preparation
  • verify correct food storage and rotation
  • participate in performance reviews
  • conduct line-checks ensuring food quality
  • assist in ongoing training of kitchen staff
  • participate in hiring and coaching of kitchen team to reduce turnover
  • place food orders following set pars
  • conduct weekly food and supplies inventory
  • act as Kitchen Manager when needed
  • maintain availability of all menu items to standard
  • act proactively and plan ahead
  • lead by example with company dress code and appearance standards
