Job Description
The hiring establishment is a dynamic food service company specializing in kitchen operations aimed at delivering high-quality meals and exceptional customer service. This company operates within the food service industry, managing central kitchens that support multiple restaurant locations or food outlets. Known for its commitment to excellence, sanitation, and operational efficiency, the company employs skilled professionals dedicated to maintaining consistent food quality and enhancing the overall dining experience for customers. The role of Assistant Kitchen Manager is a non-exempt, hourly position with a starting pay rate of $21.25 per hour. This position is critical to the smooth operation of the kitchen and front-of-house areas, often stepping in to manage and lead in the absence of higher-level managers.
The Assistant Kitchen Manager plays a comprehensive role that encompasses various aspects of food preparation, including grilling, cooking, scratch baking, sandwich and salad making, and preparing all hot and cold food items served within the establishment. Beyond cooking responsibilities, this role is accountable for enforcing strict sanitation procedures, organizing and rotating products to ensure freshness, and training new cooks, prep cooks, and servers to maintain operational standards. The assistant manager also undertakes administrative tasks such as inventory management, ordering supplies, and transferring products within the operation.
Throughout their shift, the Assistant Kitchen Manager provides invaluable support by performing the duties of a Cook, Prep Cook, or server as needed, ensuring the flow of service remains uninterrupted. This multi-faceted responsibility requires exceptional organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively within a fast-paced environment. The ability to operate heavy machinery and work in varying temperature conditions, from hot kitchens to cold storage areas, is essential. This role demands a physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand for extended periods, and push or pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds.
In addition to operational duties, the Assistant Kitchen Manager serves as a vital communication link between the kitchen staff and management. They are expected to answer department phones, handle customer interactions when necessary, and maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures. The work schedule may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and occasional shifts lasting up to 10 hours, reflecting the need for flexibility within the food service industry.
This company offers a competitive benefits package designed to support employee well-being and professional growth. Employees enjoy flexible working hours, employee discounts, paid holidays including birthday leave, comprehensive medical, vision, and dental insurance packages, free life insurance, vacation and sick leave, various voluntary insurance plans, long-term disability coverage, wellness programs, discounted gym memberships, a matching 401K plan, and management bonuses for qualifying positions. This extensive benefits package highlights the company's dedication to fostering a positive and supportive workplace culture.
Overall, the Assistant Kitchen Manager role is ideal for candidates seeking to advance their career in food service management, offering opportunities to develop leadership skills, gain supervisory experience, and contribute significantly to the operational success of a respected food service establishment. The position balances hands-on food preparation duties with managerial responsibilities, making it a challenging and rewarding role within a collaborative team environment.
