Job Description
American Cruise Lines is the largest USA flagged cruise line operating exclusively within the United States. Specializing in small ship experiences, they maintain a fleet of vessels with no more than 200 passengers, offering an intimate and unique way to explore America's waterways. As an established leader in the cruise industry, American Cruise Lines prides itself on delivering exceptional service and sharing America's story through its cruises. Their fleet is growing with new, newly constructed vessels being added for the 2026 season, presenting exciting opportunities for career growth and leadership within their shipboard teams. This company culture is guided by its core values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit, shaping a work environment centered on service excellence and teamwork.
The role of Assistant Hotel Manager aboard American Cruise Lines' vessels is critical to maintaining the highest standards of hospitality and guest satisfaction on board. Reporting directly to the Hotel Manager, the Assistant Hotel Manager assists in overseeing the Hotel Department, which includes dining, culinary services, housekeeping, shore excursions, onboard enrichment programs, guest services, and overall crew morale and training. This position involves supervising the shipboard hotel management team, ensuring adherence to company procedures and service standards to guarantee a consistent, quality guest experience. Acting as a representative of gracious hospitality, the Assistant Hotel Manager must balance professionalism, courteousness, and efficiency while managing daily operations and guest interactions.
Beyond daily supervision, this role requires the Assistant Hotel Manager to be hands-on during all meal services, assist with stateroom inspections, oversee bar operations and inventory, and be highly visible to guests and crew members alike to foster a positive environment. Additionally, this position includes preparing for vessel turnaround day processes and occasionally performing the duties of the Hotel General Manager when they are off duty. The Assistant Hotel Manager supports crew training, scheduling, discipline, and appearance standards, and actively helps to create a consistent, positive crew experience to improve retention and performance. Essential functions involve working in a dynamic environment subjected to the motions of a ship and maintaining the ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
This is a full-time, exempt position requiring a flexible schedule with long workdays aboard the ship for 6 to 8 weeks followed by 1 to 2 weeks off. The ideal candidate is an experienced hospitality professional with strong leadership skills, excellent communication, and organizational abilities. With an emphasis on safety, superior guest satisfaction, and operational excellence, this role is fundamental in continuing American Cruise Lines' tradition of outstanding service aboard their vessels. The company provides competitive daily compensation, health, dental, vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with matching contributions, and covers travel, room, board, uniforms, and training costs. This position represents an exceptional career opportunity for hospitality professionals eager to join a respected and growing American cruise line dedicated to delivering memorable travel experiences within the United States.
