Job Description
American Cruise Lines is the largest USA flagged cruise line in the United States, renowned for providing unique small ship cruising experiences exclusively along American waterways. The company operates a fleet of vessels with no more than 200 passengers on board, which allows them to offer a highly personalized and intimate travel atmosphere. With a commitment to showcasing America's rich heritage through their cruises, the company has established itself as a leader in the hospitality and travel industry. Known for its values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit, American Cruise Lines prioritizes service excellence and guest satisfaction while maintaining a strong dedication to crew welfare and professional integrity. The company is expanding its fleet with newly constructed vessels, making this an opportune moment for hospitality professionals to join their dynamic and growing shipboard management team.
The Assistant Hotel Manager (AHM) position aboard American Cruise Lines' vessels is a pivotal role within the shipboard hotel management team. This role assists the Hotel Manager in overseeing all aspects of the Hotel Department to ensure consistent service quality and that guest expectations are consistently met. The AHM directly supervises various hotel management staff including the Housekeeping Manager and Guest Service Coordinator, and is actively involved in managing dining services, culinary standards, guest services, and onboard enrichment activities. The position demands a hands-on approach where the Assistant Hotel Manager is often present during meal services, oversees operational standards, and ensures compliance with company procedures and service protocols. A critical component of this role is driving superior guest satisfaction and service excellence, which are central to the success of American Cruise Lines. The Assistant Hotel Manager also takes on responsibilities typically handled by the Hotel General Manager when necessary, including during their scheduled absences during the week.
This role requires strong leadership abilities, flawless organizational skills, and a customer-centric mindset. The AHM works closely with ship officers and hotel crew, ensuring they maintain the highest standards of cleanliness, hospitality, uniform appearance, and service delivery. Supervising bar operations and managing inventory, assisting in crew orientation, scheduling, and training, and maintaining shipboard business transactions and reporting are also essential functions. The Assistant Hotel Manager must be visible and approachable, fostering a professional and positive work environment conducive to high employee morale and retention. Candidates must be adaptable, with the ability to work long shifts and live on board the ship for extended periods, navigating the unique challenges presented by life at sea including the ship's motions and extended hours.
American Cruise Lines offers a full-time exempt position with a competitive daily rate and comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision insurance, and a 401(k) plan with company match. The company covers travel, room and board, uniforms, and training expenses, making it an attractive opportunity for hospitality leaders looking to advance their careers while enjoying travel and life aboard state-of-the-art vessels. If you are passionate about hospitality, leadership, and delivering exceptional guest experiences in a maritime environment, this role provides a challenging and rewarding career path.
