Job Description
American Cruise Lines is the largest USA flagged cruise line operating exclusively in the United States. The company is renowned for its unique small ship cruising experience, with a fleet of vessels carrying no more than 200 passengers each. Known for their dedication to delivering exceptional American stories through travel, the line is expanding with newly constructed ships entering service, providing excellent career growth opportunities. American Cruise Lines prides itself on its core values of optimism, commitment, patriotism, and merit, shaping the culture and service provided both to guests and employees. The company commits to providing a safe and welcoming environment for passengers while maintaining high standards of professionalism and service throughout the cruise experience. Employment with American Cruise Lines is full-time and exempt, with competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits including travel, room and board, uniforms, and training covered by the company.
The position of Assistant Hotel Manager (AHM) with American Cruise Lines is a pivotal shipboard management role responsible for assisting the Hotel Manager in overseeing all aspects of the Hotel Department onboard the cruise ship. This department includes the management of housekeeping, guest services, culinary operations, shore excursions, and onboard enrichment programs. As part of the hotel management team, the AHM ensures consistent adherence to service quality standards, operational procedures, and guest satisfaction goals. They supervise key personnel such as the Housekeeping Manager and Guest Service Coordinator and work closely with the Dining Room Manager during meal services.
The Assistant Hotel Manager plays a critical role in maintaining service excellence, guest interaction, and crew morale. This includes assuming responsibilities of the Hotel General Manager during their absence up to 1-2 times per week, overseeing turnaround day processes, ensuring cleanliness and maintenance, and managing bar operations and inventory. The role demands visible leadership, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and strong communication skills. The AHM is also responsible for training, scheduling, and disciplining crew members, while helping meet weekly sales goals and maintaining impeccable hygiene and sanitation standards in passenger and crew areas.
Given the dynamic environment of shipboard life, the AHM must be able to perform physically demanding tasks in an environment subject to ship motions such as surge, sway, roll, and pitch. They should be prepared to work long shifts averaging 12 hours, be comfortable living onboard for extended periods, and assist in emergencies if necessary. This role requires a highly organized, motivated leader who excels in hospitality management, demonstrates exceptional customer service, and is committed to creating positive experiences for both passengers and crew. The opportunity offers employment aboard some of the finest American vessels, providing a rewarding career in the cruise industry focused on sharing America’s story at sea.
