Job Description
American Cruise Lines is the largest USA-flagged cruise line in the United States, specializing in small ship experiences across the nation. With a fleet of no more than 200 passenger vessels, American Cruise Lines offers unique, intimate voyages that showcase the beauty and culture of America in a way large cruise ships cannot. The company is expanding its fleet with newly constructed vessels for the 2026 season, creating excellent career opportunities for professionals seeking to join a dynamic and proud American company. Known for its core values of Optimism, Commitment, Patriotism, and Merit, American Cruise Lines prides itself on delivering exceptional service and memorable experiences to its guests, while fostering a supportive work environment for its crew. The company operates exclusively within the USA, ensuring a deeply American cruising experience that resonates with domestic travelers and guests who appreciate personalized, high-quality service.
The Assistant Hotel Manager (AHM) at American Cruise Lines plays a pivotal role in the day-to-day operation of the Hotel Department onboard their vessels. The primary responsibility of the AHM is to assist the Hotel Manager in managing all aspects of the hotel operations to guarantee service excellence, adherence to company standards, and ensuring guest satisfaction. This role requires a hands-on leader who can supervise the shipboard hotel management team, including the Housekeeping Manager and Guest Service Coordinator, and ensure smooth execution of all service areas such as dining, culinary operations, housekeeping, shore excursions, onboard enrichment, and guest services.
The Assistant Hotel Manager must be visible and accessible to both guests and crew, demonstrating professional leadership and maintaining crew morale. This include holding the officers and crew accountable to company standards and facilitating crew training, scheduling, and discipline where necessary. The role demands a strong commitment to creating positive guest interactions and superior customer service while maintaining impeccable cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the passenger and crew areas. The AHM also supports the Hotel Manager by managing inventory including wine and liquor stocks, overseeing turnaround day processes, and assisting with daily inspections and business transactions related to the hotel department.
Candidates for this full-time, exempt position should be prepared for the unique challenges of shipboard life, including extended periods living onboard, working around 12-hour days, and responding swiftly to guest and crew needs. Physical requirements include the ability to handle ship motions such as surge, sway, heave, roll, pitch, and yaw, as well as the ability to climb ladders, stand for long periods, lift moderate weights, and frequently use stairs. The role offers a competitive daily wage and comprehensive benefits including health, dental, vision insurance, and a 401(k) plan with company match. Travel, room and board, uniforms, and training expenses are covered by American Cruise Lines.
This position provides an excellent opportunity for hospitality managers, especially those with hotel, resort, or cruise ship experience, who are enthusiastic about delivering high-quality American hospitality while working in a dynamic and rewarding maritime environment. Joining American Cruise Lines means becoming part of a company dedicated to sharing America’s story aboard some of the finest American ships, guided by integrity and respect for both guests and crew members.
