Job Description

American Cruise Lines is the largest USA flagged cruise line operating exclusively within the United States. Renowned for its small-ship experience, the company features a fleet of vessels accommodating no more than 200 passengers, offering guests an intimate and unique journey along various American waterways and coastlines. The company has been expanding its fleet with newly constructed ships, emphasizing high quality, service, and the celebration of America’s scenic and cultural heritage. American Cruise Lines is proud of its core values of Optimism, Commitment, Patriotism, and Merit, which guide its team in providing outstanding guest experiences on the finest American ships.

The Assistant Hotel Manager position is a critical role within American Cruise Lines’ shipboard management team for the 2026 season. This full-time, exempt role reports directly to the Hotel Manager and supports the overall operation and quality of the Hotel Department aboard the vessels. The Assistant Hotel Manager oversees various aspects of guest hospitality and hotel services, focusing on providing superior guest satisfaction and maintaining consistency in service standards. The role includes supervising key personnel such as the Housekeeping Manager and Guest Service Coordinator, ensuring cleanliness of staterooms and public areas, assisting with dining services, and overseeing bar operations and inventory. The Assistant Hotel Manager must be visible and accessible to both guests and crew, holding all hotel department staff accountable to company standards while fostering a positive, professional, and efficient environment.

This position is demanding, requiring someone who can work long days, often living and working onboard the ship for 6 to 8 weeks at a time followed by 1 to 2 weeks off. The work environment is dynamic and can be physically challenging due to the constant motion of the ship caused by wind, waves, and currents. Essential duties include managing hotel operations during the absence of the Hotel Manager, orchestrating crew training and scheduling, assisting during onboard events and meal services, performing daily inspections, maintaining sanitation and cleanliness standards, and responding promptly to guest requests and issues. The Assistant Hotel Manager plays a fundamental role in sustaining the company's commitment to exemplary service while promoting crew morale and retention.

American Cruise Lines offers a competitive daily rate for this position along with comprehensive benefits such as health, dental, and vision insurance, a 401(k) plan with a company match, and covered expenses including travel, room and board, uniforms, and training. Candidates must possess regulatory certifications such as a US Coast Guard pre-employment drug test and Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) as part of the hiring prerequisites. The company is an equal opportunity employer, committed to diversity and inclusion in all aspects of employment. This role is ideal for candidates with strong organizational skills, hospitality management education or experience, and a passion for delivering exceptional guest services in a unique maritime setting.
