Job Description

MAKfam is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant recognized in 2024 and 2025, co-founded by Chef Kenneth Wan, a prestigious 2024 James Beard Emerging Chef and a two-time Best Chef Mountain Semi-Finalist in 2025 and 2026, alongside his wife, Doris Yuen. The restaurant boasts a tradition-inspired Chinese menu that reflects the founders' personal culinary journeys and the creative input of the entire kitchen team. This dynamic fusion results in bold, unique, and craveable dishes that have captured the attention of the dining community. MAKfam is firmly rooted in a culture that values collaboration, inclusion, and respect, with a staunch policy against negativity, ensuring that both the team and the food can flourish in a supportive environment.

MAKfam is currently seeking an Assistant General Manager (AGM) for a hands-on leadership role that is far from traditional. This position serves as a training role with a clear, performance-based pathway to advance into a General Manager role. The AGM will play an instrumental part in managing daily operations, enforcing service standards, and developing the front-of-house team. Success in this position requires strong execution skills, sound decision making, and a high level of ownership. The MAKfam concept is rapidly growing and evolving, providing the AGM an exciting opportunity to become a key player in shaping the future of the restaurant during this crucial phase.

This role isn’t just about managing—it’s about leading with emotional intelligence, supporting a positive team culture, and fostering trust and alignment across all levels of staff. The ideal candidate will embody steadiness, accountability, and care, balancing high standards with empathy and encouragement. The Assistant General Manager will be a critical support to the General Manager, reinforcing leadership consistency and serving as a problem-solver and communication bridge between front-of-house, back-of-house, and ownership.

The position demands open availability, flexibility to work nights and weekends, and a growth mindset eager to take on more responsibility over time. It calls for a leader capable of remaining composed under pressure in a high-volume environment while being hands-on with the team on the floor. Responsibilities include supervising daily service execution and operational duties, coaching team members through challenges, managing team morale, and maintaining a strong leadership presence during peak service hours.

MAKfam offers competitive compensation ranging from $60,000 to $65,000, dependent on experience, alongside quarterly bonus payouts tied to performance. The restaurant also provides full medical, dental, and vision coverage, a 401(k) plan with employer matching, paid time off, and employee meal discounts. This is an exceptional opportunity for someone passionate about growth, ready for a leadership challenge, and invested in working closely with ownership to build a multi-unit concept from the ground up. If you are motivated by development, responsibility, and collaboration, MAKfam welcomes your application to join their team and embark on a promising career path in hospitality leadership.
