Job Description

Sonesta International Hotels is recognized as the 8th largest hotel company in the United States, experiencing rapid growth and steadily expanding its influence within the hospitality industry. This prestigious company operates a diverse and comprehensive portfolio of properties that includes a blend of full-service and focused hotels strategically located in major cities. Sonesta's footprint spans over 1000 properties across eight countries, underscoring its global presence and commitment to providing quality accommodations and service. The company is well-regarded for its unique approach that emphasizes the human side of hospitality, delivering service with passion, loyalty, and genuine connection to its guests. Sonesta International Hotels is continually innovating and growing to ensure it meets and exceeds guest expectations while providing a stimulating work environment for its employees.

The role of Assistant General Manager (AGM) at Sonesta ES Suites represents a vital training position aimed at preparing candidates to ascend to the role of General Manager within the company's portfolio. This position serves as a career advancement opportunity available exclusively to current Directors of Sales or Operations Managers who demonstrate the potential to lead a hotel effectively. The AGM role involves rigorous training conducted concurrently with the candidate’s current responsibilities, equipping them with knowledge and experience necessary to represent Sonesta’s brand and operational excellence when they take on full leadership as the onsite General Manager.

The AGM is charged with learning to deliver impactful results that align with Sonesta’s mission and objectives, focusing on revenue growth, cost control, guest and associate satisfaction, and maintaining high standards for product and service quality. This includes collaborating closely with various Sonesta departments such as marketing, revenue management, sales, accounting, facilities, human resources, information technology, and procurement - all integral to hotel operations. As an Assistant General Manager, the individual will gain hands-on experience managing sales activities, overseeing hotel operations through direct supervision of department heads, enforcing service and brand standards, handling guest relations and complaint resolution, and managing both financial and physical resources of the hotel.

The comprehensive training ensures the future General Manager is well-versed in hotel management systems like Opera and Synxis, understands market-driven pricing strategies, and can effectively implement capital and operational budget controls. Furthermore, this role requires solid leadership skills to motivate teams, uphold compliance with health, safety, and legal standards, and manage the hotel’s overall brand reputation. With an emphasis on guest satisfaction and operational efficiency, the AGM role stands as a cornerstone for developing leaders who will continue Sonesta’s tradition of exceptional hospitality and business success. Employment terms include a commitment to a dynamic work environment, with the necessity to work varied shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The compensation for the Assistant General Manager position is competitive, reflecting the role's responsibilities and opportunities for growth within the company.
