Job Description

MAKfam is a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant recognized in 2024 and 2025, established by Chef Kenneth Wan, a 2024 James Beard Emerging Chef and Best Chef Mountain Semi-Finalist in 2025 and 2026, alongside his wife Doris Yuen. This restaurant is known for its tradition-inspired Chinese menu that reflects the founders' personal culinary journeys while showcasing the creativity and innovation of the entire kitchen team. MAKfam crafts bold, unique, and craveable dishes that honor culture and elevate the dining experience.

MAKfam places a strong emphasis on culture, promoting a collaborative, inclusive, and respectful work environment free from negativity. Every team member plays an essential role in creating a supportive space where both the people and food can flourish. The restaurant supports personal growth and nurtures leadership among staff, fostering a positive team dynamic that translates into exceptional service.

The current opening is for an Assistant General Manager (AGM), a pivotal leadership position that functions as a General Manager training role rather than a traditional AGM role. The successful candidate will be deeply involved in leading daily operations, maintaining high service standards, and cultivating a skilled, motivated team on the floor. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring strong execution capabilities, sound decision-making, and a deep sense of ownership.

MAKfam is an evolving restaurant concept experiencing rapid growth and momentum. This role offers an exciting opportunity to step into leadership at a critical phase of expansion and to help shape the future of the business. For the right individual, this position provides a clear pathway for quick advancement into the General Manager role and an opportunity to contribute significantly to building a multi-unit restaurant concept from the ground up.

The ideal candidate will be a steady, emotionally intelligent leader who can build trust and lead by example with accountability and care. They will effectively handle moments of tension and maintain team alignment with strong communication skills and problem-solving abilities. The AGM is expected to support a positive, respectful, and accountable team environment, coach staff through performance challenges, and maintain morale with consistency and a calm presence during high-pressure situations.

This role demands open availability including nights and weekends, a hands-on leadership style, excellent multitasking under pressure, and the ability to uphold both service execution and operational responsibilities. The AGM will partner closely with the General Manager to manage daily service, administrative tasks, scheduling, inventory, and guest relations. The position requires someone ready to build a trusted leadership presence and foster a psychologically safe, high-functioning team. Compensation ranges from $60,000 to $65,000 based on experience, with an achievable quarterly bonus tied to performance. MAKfam also offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, and vision coverage, 401(k) with employer match, paid time off, and meal discounts. This is a growth-oriented role perfect for an aspiring hospitality leader ready to make a significant impact in a dynamic, respected restaurant environment.
