The Assistant General Manager plays a crucial role within BBQ Holdings by assisting the General Manager in the overall profitable operation of the restaurant. This position is integral to achieving business goals by ensuring the restaurant maintains a high level of quality service, operational efficiency, and team leadership. The Assistant General Manager is responsible for supporting all facets of restaurant management including staff development, guest relations, facility maintenance, and financial accountability. This role requires an individual who is passionate about the hospitality industry, motivated by a fast-paced work environment, and dedicated to promoting a culture of respect and continuous improvement.
In this position, the Assistant General Manager works closely with the General Manager to increase guest counts and sales through the development of guest loyalty via excellent operational standards and personalized customer attention. They also assist with staffing responsibilities such as hiring, training, scheduling, supervising, and evaluating employees to ensure that operations run smoothly and efficiently. Additionally, the Assistant General Manager ensures compliance with health, safety, and cleanliness standards, and oversees maintenance and security of the restaurant’s facilities and equipment.
The role demands strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, and a thorough understanding of both front and back of house restaurant management techniques. The Assistant General Manager must be able to analyze operational results, implement corrective actions, manage budgets responsibly, and participate actively in company meetings and planning initiatives. This position also requires flexibility in work hours, as well as the ability to maintain a professional appearance and enthusiastic attitude towards serving guests. Job Requirements
- minimum of one year of managerial or supervisory experience
- valid driver’s license and car insurance
- certification through management training programs after hire
- flexibility to work minimum of 50 hours per week
- ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- ability to perform physical activities such as stooping, kneeling, balancing, and reaching
- ability to communicate clearly in English
- adherence to company mission, vision, values, and culture
Job Qualifications
- minimum of one year of managerial or supervisory experience
- valid driver’s license and car insurance
- preferred degree in hospitality, business, or hotel/restaurant management
- preferred Serve Safe Food and/or Serve Safe Alcohol certifications
- required certification through management training programs after hire
- knowledge of back and front of house restaurant operations
- strong communication and organizational skills
- ability to train, coach, evaluate, and discipline employees
- ability to read and analyze financial statements
- proficiency in restaurant equipment usage
- clear written and verbal English communication
- preferred bilingual skills
- sound judgment application
- flexibility to work minimum 50 hours per week
Job Duties
- increase guest counts and sales through guest loyalty development
- assist General Manager in facility and equipment management including maintenance and repairs
- partner in recruitment, hiring, training, supervising, and scheduling employees
- ensure proper training and development of non-exempt staff and trainers
- enforce company policies and procedures among employees
- supervise 20-50 employees during shifts
- maintain health department and quality restaurant evaluation scores
- analyze results and implement corrective action plans
- achieve budgeted profit levels
- attend management and company meetings
- ensure secure transportation of daily bank deposits
- maintain professional appearance and punctuality
- acknowledge guests enthusiastically
- perform other assigned duties
