The role of Assistant General Manager at Applegreen is a pivotal position that supports the General Manager in the effective day-to-day operation of the travel plaza. This role is particularly suitable for entry-level managers seeking to develop important management skills and gain practical experience in leadership, decision-making, and operational management within a fast-paced, customer-centric environment. The Assistant General Manager is responsible for fostering teamwork, delivering performance feedback, setting goals, and ensuring that all business objectives are clearly communicated and met. They oversee non-management staff, ensuring that work assignments are carried out efficiently while coaching and developing shift supervisors to maintain high operational standards.
The Assistant General Manager must be capable of stepping into the General Manager’s role in their absence, making critical decisions to maintain smooth operations. Leadership and organizational skills are paramount, as is the ability to motivate employees and positively influence morale. The position requires a hands-on approach to managing compliance with company policies and procedures, maintaining cleanliness and presentation standards, accurate cash management, inventory control, and resolving customer issues to build strong and lasting relationships. This role demands an attentive, proactive, and service-oriented mindset to support the overall success of the travel plaza.
Applegreen offers a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the health, well-being, and professional growth of its employees. Benefits include flexible scheduling to accommodate diverse needs, medical, dental, and vision insurance, paid time off to promote work-life balance, and a 401(k) retirement plan with company match to assist with financial planning. Employees also benefit from earned wage access allowing for pay on demand, education assistance programs to encourage continuous learning, employee referral bonuses, meal discounts, and even pet insurance.
This dynamic role presents an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about leadership, customer service, and operational excellence to grow their career within a respected and evolving company. Applegreen fosters an inclusive work environment as an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to diversity and a drug-free workplace. Candidates joining as Assistant General Managers will be instrumental in upholding the high standards of service, safety, and quality that define the Applegreen brand while developing their management expertise in a supportive and well-resourced environment.
