Job Requirements

  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card) to work onboard the ship as required by federal regulations
  • ability to satisfactorily pass a pre-employment drug test
  • must be 21+ years old
  • physically fit and in good health to meet the demands of an intense shipboard role
  • must be able to carry heavy items and stand, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods
  • Viking Cruises is an at-will employer, and employment is subject to termination with or without cause or notice at any time by either party

Job Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience as a Sushi Chef or similar at a 5-star hospitality and/or restaurant environment
  • ServSafe certified
  • previous experience in preparation and presentation of sushi, sashimi, and other Japanese culinary dishes
  • guest-focused and service-oriented with a positive personality
  • professional appearance and impeccable hygiene standards
  • excellent knowledge of public health policies, especially US Public Health and FDA Standards

Job Duties

  • Ensure quality and presentation of sushi and sashimi during lunch and dinner
  • arrange items on an attractive display for guests
  • demonstrate excellent cooking skills and creativity to enhance buffet presentations
  • ensure economical work practices and control food production to minimize wastage
  • maintain food preparation and storage standards according to public health policies and company regulations
  • be prepared to step-up and help other areas of culinary operations where needed
  • enforce clean as you go work habits and maintain impeccable cleanliness and hygiene in assigned areas
