The Bakery Assistant Department Head position is a vital role within T&T Supermarket’s Bakery Department, reporting directly to the Bakery Department Head. This role offers hands-on support in the daily operations of the bakery and helps ensure that the department runs smoothly and efficiently under favorable working conditions. This position requires someone who is not only skilled in bakery operations but also capable of leading a team, supervising staff, and maintaining product quality. The candidate will be responsible for promoting teamwork, supervising service assistants, managing inventory control, and helping to create attractive product displays especially during special events and holidays.

The Assistant Department Head will also collaborate closely with the Merchandising Department to align pricing strategies and ensure compliance with company principles. Quality control, inventory management, workplace safety, and food safety are central to this role, with a particular emphasis on upholding strict policies such as FIFO (First In, First Out) to ensure freshness and reduce waste. In addition to overseeing the department’s cleanliness and hygiene, the Assistant Department Head will also participate directly in bakery duties to lead by example.

This position seeks candidates with strong communication skills — proficiency in English is required, and Cantonese or Mandarin is advantageous. A minimum of three years of relevant experience, including at least one year in a supervisory role, is preferred. Candidates should also demonstrate familiarity with profit and loss management, ability to interpret data and market information, and strong computer proficiency, especially in MS Office applications. Knowledge of workplace health and safety protocols, merchandise management, inventory control, promotional strategies, and product labeling is also crucial.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience

Job Duties

  • Supervise and ensure the quality of the products
  • greet customers by providing good customer service with smile, friendly enthusiasm
  • manage department performance and attain departmental goals
  • manage and supervise department daily operation and staff performance
  • provide coaching, on-the-job training, shadowing, guidance to department staff
  • supervise Bakery Service Assistants, ensure fair distribution of work and daily checklists are strictly executed
  • promote teamwork and create an inclusive working environment
  • manage and control the product inventory in freezer and cooler
  • set up and manage the product display in every special events/holidays
  • familiarize with products ordering, its process and execution
  • follow company’s pricing principle and partner closely with pricing strategies of Merchandising Department
  • conduct quality and inventory control
  • responsible for cleanliness, hygiene, equipment and tools maintenance follow up and workplace safety of the department
  • oversee product quality, food safety, freshness and ensure FIFO is strictly practiced within the department
  • maintain and update UPC pricing, verify and ensure product labeling are properly done
  • ensure bread, cake and other pastry products are properly packaged and displayed
  • lead by example by performing all hands on duties required in the Bakery Department
