Marriott St. Louis Grand is part of Marriott International, a leading global hospitality company known for its commitment to quality, innovation, and outstanding guest experiences. Marriott International operates a broad portfolio of hotels and related lodging facilities across the world, renowned for delivering exceptional services and fostering an inclusive and diverse work environment. The St. Louis Grand property offers a unique blend of elegance and comfort, combining modern amenities with Southern hospitality. As a premier hotel destination, it attracts a variety of guests, including business travelers, tourists, and event attendees, making it a vibrant place for career opportunities in the culinary and hospitality industries.
Join the culinary team at Marriott St. Louis Grand as an Artisan Baker, also recognized as a Pastry Cook. This role invites a passionate and imaginative individual who is dedicated to creating superior baked goods while maintaining high standards of quality and safety. The Artisan Baker will play an integral part in enhancing the culinary offerings of the hotel by preparing, baking, and presenting a variety of pastries, bread, desserts, and similar items in accordance with Marriott's recipes and presentation standards. This position is crucial in ensuring that every product delivered to guests meets the excellence expected from Marriott’s brand.
In this role, you will be responsible for the precise scaling, combining, portioning, and prepping of ingredients to support the day's baking operations. You will expertly operate and maintain baking equipment and tools, ensuring all protocols are adhered to for a safe and efficient kitchen environment. Monitoring ovens and kitchen machinery will be an essential part of your duties to achieve perfect cooking times and temperatures, guaranteeing product consistency and quality.
Maintaining impeccable food safety and sanitation standards is paramount. You will be tasked with proper storage of food items, diligent practice of personal hygiene, and upholding cleanliness throughout the bakery and kitchen areas. Your attention to detail will extend to completing workstation setup and breakdown procedures adhering to kitchen rules and regulations.
The Artisan Baker is expected to evaluate each batch made during the shift to ensure it aligns with the required food quality and consistency standards. Prioritizing cleanliness, safety, and organization within the bakery and kitchen environment reflects Marriott’s commitment to employee and guest well-being. Effective communication and teamwork are also vital components of this role, as you will interact with team members and guests professionally, offer assistance to co-workers, and contribute to fostering a supportive and collaborative team culture.
This role may also involve additional responsibilities and tasks as assigned by management, demonstrating adaptability and dedication. Physical demands include standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods, lifting or moving objects up to 25 pounds, and performing various physical movements such as bending, twisting, and reaching. The ability to work on uneven surfaces like stairs and ramps is also required.
While previous experience in baking or pastry-making is beneficial, the position welcomes individuals with less than a year of related experience, valuing enthusiasm and the willingness to learn. A high school diploma or GED is preferred but supervisory experience and certifications are not mandatory.
Marriott International’s corporate culture prioritizes diversity and inclusion, ensuring all associates have equal opportunities to grow and succeed regardless of their backgrounds. Marriott encourages authenticity and professional development, making it an excellent workplace for those passionate about hospitality and culinary arts looking to build a rewarding career.
