The Artisan Baker position at Marriott St. Louis Grand is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about baking and pastry arts to contribute to an esteemed culinary team. As a Pastry Cook, you will be responsible for preparing and baking a diverse array of pastries, breads, desserts, and other baked goods that meet Marriott’s rigorous standards for appearance, flavor, and safety. Your role involves not only the hands-on creation of high-quality bakery products but also maintaining an organized, sanitary, and efficient kitchen environment.

In this role, you will expertly scale, portion, and combine ingredients following standardized recipes, ensuring consistency and excellence in every batch. You will also be responsible for operating and maintaining baking equipment safely and efficiently, monitoring oven temperatures and cooking times to achieve perfect results every time. Attention to food safety and sanitation practices is paramount, as you will ensure correct food storage, personal hygiene, and cleanliness to meet Marriott’s health standards.

The Artisan Baker is expected to perform setup and breakdown of the workstation according to kitchen rules while upholding the highest quality and consistency in all baked goods produced during their shift. Flexibility in taking on additional tasks as assigned by managers demonstrates your commitment to the overall success of the culinary operation.

Physically, this role requires the ability to stand, walk, or sit for extended periods, handle objects weighing up to 25 pounds, and perform various movements such as twisting, stooping, and reaching. The dynamic kitchen environment may also include navigating stairs and ramps or working on uneven surfaces.

Job Qualifications

  • Fulfillment of high school diploma or GED requirements
  • Less than a year of specific background in baking pastry making or kitchen duties
  • No licenses or certifications required
  • No supervisory experience required

Job Duties

  • Prepare and bake various types of goods like pastries bread desserts and similar items following standardized recipes and presentation standards
  • Scale out combine portion and prep elements for daily baking operations
  • Securely operate and upkeep baking equipment and tools according to regulations
  • Monitor ovens and kitchen machinery to confirm correct cooking periods and temperature controls
  • Adhere to food safety and sanitation policies by correctly storing food items practicing good personal hygiene and maintaining kitchen cleanliness
  • Complete workstation setup and breakdown procedures according to kitchen rules
  • Make sure each batch prepared during the shift meets required standards of food quality and consistency
