Job Description

Arriba Abajo is a vibrant Cantina-themed Bar and Restaurant located within the prestigious Thompson and Tommie Austin hotels in Downtown Austin. These two premier lifestyle hotels cater to a diverse clientele seeking luxury, comfort, and an immersive local experience. The new Arriba Abajo concept is scheduled to open in early Spring and offers an impressive 17,000 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor dining and lounge space, including multiple venues for private events and a pool deck that services hotel guests and residents alike. The restaurant is set to be a dynamic social hub that blends authentic cuisine, stylish ambiance, and superior service, reflecting Austin's unique culture and culinary scene.

The Line Cook role at Arriba Abajo is essential for maintaining the kitchen's high standards and delivering consistently excellent food that meets and exceeds guest expectations. This position demands strong communication and culinary skills, ideally supported by a culinary degree and previous hotel cooking experience. The successful candidate will work primarily on single kitchen stations and will be closely supervised and trained to ensure adherence to the kitchen's operational procedures and quality standards. The role requires a deep understanding of kitchen operations, including food production, quality and consistency, staffing, cost control, and training. Line Cooks at Arriba Abajo play a vital role in daily kitchen functionality and must be capable of stepping in to provide direction in the absence of the hourly Sous Chef.

Located within the Thompson Austin and Tommie Austin hotels, the establishment offers luxury accommodations and distinctive guest experiences. Thompson Austin features 212 luxury guestrooms and suites, 17 residences, a 10,000 square foot wellness center, and multiple dining venues including three restaurant and bar concepts. Its expansive pool deck and private cabanas provide guests with a sophisticated outdoor retreat. Tommie Austin, with 193 king rooms, is designed for the spirited adventurer, inviting guests to explore Austin’s vibrant culture and art scene. It boasts unique amenities like a bespoke coffee and wine shop and fosters a relaxed, self-guided guest experience complemented by warm and authentic service.

Both hotels anchor the ground floor with the re-imagined cantina-themed restaurant concept, making it a go-to destination for locals, residents, and travelers looking for high-quality dining and social experiences in downtown Austin. Job Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Culinary degree or formal culinary training preferred
  • Two years of experience in a line cook or similar kitchen role preferred
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Must be able to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays
  • Ability to stand and perform physical tasks for extended periods

Job Qualifications

  • Refined verbal communication skills
  • Two years of previous line experience preferred
  • Culinary degree or related hotel experience preferred
  • Ability to perform all basic cooking skills
  • Capable of working single station in the kitchen
  • Strong desire to satisfy guests in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Open availability including day, evening, weekends and holidays

Job Duties

  • Prepare and cook menu items according to the restaurant’s standards
  • Monitor food production and ensure quality and consistency
  • Maintain proper station setup and cleanliness
  • Follow all health and safety regulations in the kitchen
  • Collaborate with team members to ensure efficient kitchen operations
  • Assist in training and guiding junior kitchen staff
  • Provide direction in the absence of the hourly Sous Chef
