Job Requirements

  • Minimum of an Associate of Arts degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent experience
  • three to five years of culinary management experience
  • ServSafe Certification
  • strong leadership skills
  • prior experience in K-12 culinary settings preferred
  • familiarity with state and federal food standards applicable to K-12 market preferred
  • ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise, and inspect the work of others

Job Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associate of Arts degree in Culinary Arts or equivalent experience
  • bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, Nutrition, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or Dietetics preferred
  • three to five years of culinary management experience
  • strong leadership skills
  • prior experience in K-12 culinary settings preferred
  • familiarity with state and federal food standards applicable to K-12 preferred
  • ServSafe Certification
  • ability to plan, organize, assign, supervise, and inspect work

Job Duties

  • Oversee culinary operations and activities of the school district
  • train, lead, and motivate kitchen staff
  • adhere to HACCP guidelines to ensure efficient, safe, and sanitary food production, preparation, and presentation
  • ensure all kitchens provide visually appealing, tasty, and nutrient dense food while adhering to state, federal, and district regulations
  • plan and execute compliant menus that include locally sourced products
  • manage cost controls and control expenditures
  • purchase and manage inventory
  • assist in catering events executed by the Division of School Nutrition
  • assist with development of nutrition education materials and programs
  • coordinate supervision to meet Board of Education policies, Office of School Nutrition standards, and USDA guidelines
  • plan and direct operations of preparation kitchen and designated satellite schools
  • supervise Food Service Managers
  • communicate school and departmental objectives, policies, and procedures to staff, administrators, community, parents, and students
  • inform Principals and Area Directors of activities, progress, and problems
  • maintain good employee morale and relationships
  • maintain services delivering a well-organized nutritional meal system
  • plan and conduct staff meetings
  • conduct inspections for efficient operations and compliance
  • monitor and develop HACCP Program
  • train Food Service Workers and Managers
  • perform on-site reviews for NSLP and CACFP
  • conduct on-the-job training
  • submit accurate records and reports
  • ensure program compliance
  • attend departmental meetings
  • be available via district cell phone after regular hours for operations questions
  • rate and confer with employees
  • encourage positive student involvement
  • assist development of policies and procedures
  • fulfill other duties assigned by the Executive Director of Office of School Nutrition
