Job Description
Bunkhouse Hospitality Group is a renowned hospitality company with a strong repertoire of unique boutique hotels that emphasize authentic cultural experiences, exceptional guest service, and impeccable design aesthetic. The company operates several distinctive properties, including the Austin Motel, Hotel San Jose, and the Carpenter Hotel, all situated in vibrant communities. Bunkhouse creates more than just accommodations by fostering memorable experiences that connect guests with the local culture and heritage of the area. Known for its passion for design, meticulous attention to detail, and deep commitment to community roots, Bunkhouse has earned a unique presence and loyal guest following in the hospitality industry.
The Area Director of Operations role at Bunkhouse Hospitality Group is a senior leadership position charged with overseeing the operational aspects of the Austin Motel, Hotel San Jose, and Carpenter Hotel. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Area Director of Operations works closely with all hotel departments to ensure smooth and efficient daily hotel functions, focusing primarily on Rooms, Food & Beverage, and Culinary divisions. This role demands an enthusiastic and experienced professional capable of providing strategic direction and hands-on management to multiple properties.
Key responsibilities include mentoring managers and department heads, fostering interdepartmental communication and collaboration, and ensuring the delivery of outstanding guest experiences. The Area Director acts as a liaison between various hotel teams to align business objectives and operational goals with the company’s mission. In addition to leadership duties, this role involves supervising scheduling, payroll, training, hiring, and performance evaluations for hourly and management staff across the hotels.
Success in this position requires the ability to monitor and control operational costs, quality, consistency, and financial performance on a daily basis. The leader must also facilitate departmental meetings, coordinate training programs, and set goals to continuously improve service standards and operational efficiency. Given the dynamic nature of the hospitality industry, adaptability is crucial as the Area Director may be called upon to perform diverse functions beyond the primary scope of the role to meet fluctuating demands and exceed customer expectations.
Beyond operational expertise, Bunkhouse offers a vibrant work culture enriched by benefits such as medical, dental, and vision insurance, a 401K plan with a company match, free room nights, discounted friend and family room rates, free parking, paid time off, wellness initiatives including complimentary Headspace access, and discounts with various retailers including Apple and major telecom providers. These benefits underscore the company’s commitment to employee well-being, career growth, and work-life balance.
This role is an excellent opportunity for a results-driven hospitality operations leader seeking to make a significant impact at unique boutique hotel properties while being part of an organization that values creativity, community, and authentic guest connections. The Area Director of Operations position embodies the intersection of operational excellence, inspirational leadership, and cultural immersion that defines Bunkhouse’s brand promise and reputation.
