Job Description
ISG is a renowned architecture and engineering firm founded in 1973 that has established a strong reputation for delivering innovative and impactful design solutions across various sectors. With a focus on creating environments that enhance the quality of life and promote sustainable growth, ISG operates with a deep commitment to collaboration, creativity, and technical excellence. The firm embraces ownership culture, where all employees are considered owners, which fosters a highly engaged and motivated workforce poised to deliver exceptional results to clients.
ISG's Residential + Mixed-Use Business Unit is a specialized sector within the organization committed to designing multifamily and mixed-use residential projects that stand out for their originality, functionality, and aesthetic appeal. This business unit has a rich portfolio that includes projects such as The Quarters in Ames, Cherapa Place Development in Sioux Falls, and Bryk on Broadway in Rochester, showcasing the firm's capacity to handle diverse and complex residential designs. ISG's dedication to providing unmatched services for housing clients involves collaborating across multi-disciplinary teams including developers, architects, planners, and city officials to produce innovative, sustainable, and code-compliant living environments.
The Architect role at ISG is a highly collaborative and creative position that demands a strategic thinker with a passion for award-winning design and a robust technical skill set. As an ISG Employee Owner, the Architect will work in tandem with other employee owners and teams led by key figures such as Neil Gray, Residential + Mixed-Use Business Unit Leader, Linda Lavis, Business Unit Executive, and Jeremy Wiesen, AIA, Architecture Group Leader. This role requires the individual to jump into a variety of housing-related projects, including senior living, student housing, land development, and mixed-use communities.
The Architect will be deeply involved in every phase of the design process from initial concept through construction, including master planning, documentation, funding development, programming, and client presentations. The role involves interacting directly with clients and diverse design professionals in a creative environment, communicating project goals, design standards, and procedures clearly to project managers and multi-disciplinary teams. Furthermore, the Architect will act as a mentor to other team members, helping to build and strengthen the talent pool within the business unit.
ISG values candidates who can combine technical expertise with creative problem-solving and strong leadership skills. The ability to communicate ideas empathetically and visually is essential for success in this role, as well as the capability to represent ISG and its clients in public forums and project discussions. Proficiency in architectural software such as AutoCAD, Revit, and SketchUp is required, and knowledge of building codes, safety regulations, and legal requirements is crucial to ensure all projects meet or exceed regulatory standards. ISG offers a competitive compensation package that reflects the candidate’s experience and contributions, with openness to discuss compensation beyond the posted range for strong candidates.
Joining ISG means becoming part of a forward-thinking company with a strong culture of employee ownership and a dynamic working environment focused on design excellence and client satisfaction. The benefits package supports the well-being and growth of employees, making ISG a desirable place to develop an architecture career focused on residential and mixed-use projects.
