The Aquatic Program Aide position is a vital part-time role within the Recreation Division that focuses on supporting the city's aquatic programs. This role involves hands-on engagement with swim lessons, aquatic activities, special events, and facility operations. The position is pivotal in facilitating structured swim lessons and ensuring participants have a safe, enjoyable, and organized aquatic experience. Working closely under the supervision of the Program and Recreation Coordinator, the Aquatic Program Aide collaborates with aquatic staff to deliver high-quality programming and support day-to-day facility functions. The employment type is part-time, with an hourly wage ranging from $15 to $17, classified as non-exempt under FLSA guidelines. The primary work locations include Spray Park, Ideal Beach, and Pierre Moran Pool, where the aide helps maintain a positive environment and supports operational tasks to optimize guest satisfaction. This role requires interacting with patrons of all ages, assisting families with program information and schedules, and ensuring that the aquatic areas are clean, safe, and well-organized. Job Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with youth, adults, or seniors in recreational or educational settings
- Must be friendly, active, and enjoy interacting and playing with children
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to follow city program rules and Child Safety Policy
- Ability to solve problems and mediate situations appropriately
- Flexibility to work evenings and weekends
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Must pass post offer, pre-employment drug screen
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with youth, adults, or seniors in recreational, educational, or similar settings
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Knowledge of recreational activities, sports, environmental education, arts and crafts or event coordination is highly desirable
- Ability to engage and interact positively with children of all ages
- Proven ability to learn and apply city program rules and Child Safety Policy standards
Job Duties
- Assist with implementation of aquatic programs, activities, games, lessons, and special events as directed by aquatic leadership
- Provide excellent guest service by welcoming patrons, assisting with questions, and supporting participant engagement
- Support program setup, breakdown, and organization of equipment and activity areas
- Assist participants and families with program guidance, schedules, and facility navigation
- Help maintain cleanliness, organization, and readiness of program and public spaces
- Support crowd flow and guest interaction at Spray Park, Ideal Beach, and Pierre Moran Pool as assigned
- Monitor participant behavior and communicate concerns to lifeguards or supervisors while supporting a positive environment
