Olympus High is a prominent educational institution dedicated to providing a safe, clean, and conducive learning environment for its students and staff. As part of the Granite School District, Olympus High takes pride in maintaining high standards not only in education but also in the upkeep and maintenance of its facilities. The school employs a range of dedicated personnel committed to ensuring the environment supports the school's academic mission and daily operations. The custodial department plays a vital role in this regard by managing the cleanliness, maintenance, and security of the school buildings and grounds. They work diligently to create an atmosphere where students can focus on their studies while enjoying a safe and hygienic setting.

The role of Apprentice Custodian at Olympus High is a key entry-level position within the custodial department, designed to provide on-the-job training and practical experience to individuals interested in pursuing a custodial and maintenance career. This full-time position requires a commitment of 40 hours per week with variable shifts and includes working during the district's winter break to ensure continuous service coverage. The apprentice custodian assists with routine maintenance tasks such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, garbage removal, grounds care, and minor building maintenance. Additionally, this role supports building security by locking and unlocking doors, operating security systems, and performing final lock-up procedures at the end of the day.

This position is classified as non-exempt and compensated according to the ESP (84) salary schedule, Lane B - Step 4. It offers an hourly wage and involves close supervision by the Head Custodian and Principal. Apprentices are expected to attend required apprenticeship classes, demonstrating their skills and maintaining competency logs throughout their training period. The apprenticeship aims to equip the custodian with essential skills, such as operating cleaning equipment including buffers, extractors, and auto scrubbers, using cleaning solvents safely, and performing minor equipment repairs.

The apprentice custodian must be physically capable of performing duties that include standing for long periods, lifting up to 100 pounds, and working in various weather conditions both indoors and outdoors. The role involves interaction with a wide range of people including students, teachers, administrators, and other district personnel, requiring the ability to communicate effectively and follow directions closely. Attention to detail, punctuality, reliability, and the ability to handle potential workplace hazards safely are paramount for success in this role.

Overall, Olympus High's Apprentice Custodian position offers an excellent opportunity for individuals seeking to develop a career in custodial services within a supportive educational environment.
