Job Description
Harris Teeter is a well-established grocery store chain known for its commitment to delivering fresh products and exceptional customer service. This company prides itself on creating an enjoyable shopping experience for its customers by combining quality products with comprehensive service. With locations in various communities, Harris Teeter focuses on supporting celebrations and special occasions through its in-store services and products. The store emphasizes an environment of trust, respect, and integrity, where associates work together as a team to meet and exceed customer expectations.
This role is designed for individuals interested in joining the Harris Teeter team as apprentice cake decorators. The apprentice cake decorator program is a 240-hour training initiative that aims to equip new employees with the skills necessary to decorate cakes professionally. The unique aspect of this program is that no prior cake decorating experience is required, allowing enthusiastic beginners to learn and develop a valuable skill set that can turn into a career within the company.
The apprentice will be guided and trained through detailed cake decorating techniques and customer service practices to ensure every customer's needs are met with excellence. Key responsibilities include assisting customers with their orders, providing information about cake styles and options for special events such as birthdays and holidays, and executing the company’s standards for product preparation and display. Successful completion of the training program results in certification as a Cake Decorator at Harris Teeter.
Beyond the technical aspects of cake decorating, the role requires a passion for customer service and the grocery business. Associates are expected to interact with customers actively, ask questions to understand their preferences, and follow through on requests to ensure satisfaction. The position also demands flexibility in completing various tasks such as maintaining store cleanliness, merchandising, and adhering to food safety standards.
The environment at Harris Teeter is dynamic and requires associates to adapt to shifting priorities and work collaboratively with fellow team members. Safety is a high priority, and associates are trained to maintain a safe working environment, including proper lifting techniques and handling of products. This role offers an opportunity to develop not only cake decorating skills but also interpersonal and customer service skills in a supportive retail setting, making it an excellent starting point for those looking to build a rewarding career in the grocery and bakery industry.
