The Fort Worth Independent School District (FWISD) is a leading educational institution committed to fostering student success across its extensive district. Within this district, the Child Nutrition Services (CNS) department plays a key role in supporting the health and wellbeing of students by ensuring the availability of safe and functional kitchen and dining facilities. Job Requirements

  • Accredited high school diploma, GED, or Texas Certificate of High School Equivalency
  • valid Texas Driver's License
  • insurable by the district's insurance carrier
  • minimum five years of experience repairing, replacing, or installing appliances including HVAC equipment
  • must be at least 21 years old
  • no positive drug or alcohol tests including pre-employment, random, post-accident, or reasonable suspicion
  • must have valid driving record with no more than 2 violations in last 36 months including moving traffic violations
  • no DUI history
  • no leaving the scene of an accident
  • no vehicular assault, manslaughter, or homicide
  • no operating vehicle with suspended or revoked license
  • no reckless driving or speed contests
  • no use of vehicle in commission of felony
  • no unauthorized use or grand theft
  • no permitting unlicensed driving
  • no speeding over 20 mph above limit
  • no history of conviction in commercial or personal motor vehicle
  • insurability by FWISD's Fleet Insurance Carrier
  • EPA Certified Service Technician preferred
  • ability to work various shifts and overtime as needed
  • ability to perform physical labor and heavy lifting over 50 pounds
  • ability to work in varying environmental conditions

Job Qualifications

  • minimum five years of experience repairing, replacing, or installing appliances including HVAC equipment
  • EPA Certified Service Technician preferred
  • knowledge of best practices, standard methods, materials, and tools used in appliance repair
  • knowledge of applicable electrical codes
  • skill in estimating materials and tracking inventory
  • ability to read and interpret work orders, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics
  • ability to write work descriptions, notes, and reports
  • ability to find and correct defects in electrical appliances
  • ability to use basic computing software
  • ability to organize and coordinate work
  • ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships

Job Duties

  • Services and repairs walk-in and reach-in freezers, refrigerators, ice machines, and other refrigeration equipment
  • replaces compressors, condensers, evaporators, fan motors, and other electrical components typically found in commercial kitchen equipment
  • installs, repairs, and replaces dish machines, ovens, steam tables, warming cabinets, and garbage disposals
  • assists in the installation of convection and steamer ovens
  • replaces elements and electrical components in boiler section and steam chamber
  • replaces boiler when necessary
  • repairs and replaces steam jacketed kettles and washing machines including pumps, timers, belts, tubs, and transmissions
  • locates and stops gas leaks
  • replaces burners and pilot assemblies
  • maintains inventory of district-owned tools, equipment, and materials
  • performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment
  • follows established safety procedures
  • corrects unsafe conditions and reports those not immediately correctable
  • maintains professionalism and high standards of conduct
  • provides high quality customer service and builds rapport
  • demonstrates cultural competence and teamwork
  • complies with Board rules, policies and regulations
  • travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required
  • responds to emergency work requests and works overtime as needed
