Job Description
Mattel, Inc., a global leader in the toy and family entertainment industry, is the parent company of American Girl, a premium brand dedicated to inspiring and empowering girls through innovative products and engaging experiences. Founded in 1945, Mattel has grown to encompass a diverse portfolio of iconic franchises such as Barbie, Hot Wheels, Fisher-Price, Thomas & Friends, and more. With a rich heritage rooted in creativity and innovation, Mattel is committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic workplace culture where every team member feels respected, valued, and able to bring their authentic selves to work. Known for its award-winning culture recognized by Forbes, Fast Company, and Great Place to Work among others, Mattel prioritizes collaboration, accountability, and excellence in all aspects of its operations.
American Girl stands out within Mattel’s portfolio by delivering unforgettable retail experiences that transcend typical toy shopping. The American Girl Retail team plays a critical role in creating lifetime memories for fans and their families through unique in-store experiences including salons for girls and dolls, full-service restaurants, personalized shopping, and hosting special events such as parties and celebrations. These stores serve as experiential destinations that combine imaginative play with exceptional customer service.
The Café Front of House Lead position at the American Girl Retail location in Los Angeles offers a unique and exciting opportunity to lead and support the daily restaurant operations. Reporting directly to the Restaurant Manager, this role is responsible for assisting in managing staff, overseeing customer service, and ensuring the quality of food and beverage offerings. The Café Front of House Lead will be central in maintaining a welcoming and safe environment, spearheading staff training, and coordinating vendor relations alongside restaurant leadership. This is a dynamic, fast-paced role that demands strong decision-making skills and the ability to foster a positive team atmosphere while elevating guest satisfaction.
The successful candidate will oversee important operational systems including the Zomato reservation system, POS, InfoGenesis software, and other technology vital to the smooth running of restaurant activities. They will help achieve departmental revenue and cost goals, troubleshoot operational challenges, and lead by example to promote Mattel’s values of innovation, collaboration, and execution. This position also embraces flexibility, requiring the ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays and to perform diverse physical tasks including standing, walking, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Mattel offers a competitive hourly wage ranging from $19 to $22.80 for this role, with the exact rate depending on experience, skills, and work location. In addition to monetary compensation, Mattel provides a comprehensive benefits package and resources designed to empower employees to reach their full potential. The company is deeply committed to creating an inclusive workplace culture where diverse ideas and voices are celebrated and all employees are encouraged to thrive.
Applicants who may not meet every qualification but are passionate about the role and Mattel’s mission are encouraged to apply. The company values potential and diversity, welcoming candidates with varied backgrounds who can contribute to the brand’s continued success. Joining American Girl and Mattel means being part of a purpose-driven organization focused on inspiring generations to explore their creativity, wonder, and full potential.
