The role of Patient Services Assistant at North Ottawa Community Health System is a part-time position that plays a critical role in enhancing patient and visitor experiences at its various facilities. This position requires the individual to be available for 40 hours every two weeks, with shifts scheduled primarily between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., including some morning hours on certain Saturdays. The job operates on a biweekly rotation schedule, with specified days and hours that ensure consistent coverage and support across weekdays and weekends.
The Patient Services Assistant is responsible for assisting patients and visitors with their requests, providing accurate information about the health system and community services, and delivering exceptional customer service. This role demands excellent communication skills and the ability to relate empathetically to a wide variety of people, including patients, family members, and hospital staff. Essential duties include guiding patients and families throughout their hospital visits, addressing special needs, assisting with patient information requests, managing visitor complaints by directing them to appropriate channels, and supporting services like valet and information desks as needed. Additionally, this role includes screening duties when necessary, helping maintain the safety and security of the facility.
Candidates for this position must demonstrate a high level of professionalism, empathy, and active listening skills to help create a welcoming and supportive environment for all visitors. The role also involves some physical demands such as standing for prolonged periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and assisting with wheelchair mobility. A valid Michigan Driver's license, current CPR and BLS certification, and familiarity with hospital operations are also required to perform this job effectively.

Job Duties
- Assist the patient and family throughout their hospital visit
- Assist with requests for patient information
- Proactively provide excellent customer service to all who visit NOCH
- Direct complaints to appropriate staff via the online complaint process or through a department manager
- Address special needs that may arise for families or visitors
- Assist valet service when needed
- Assist information desk when needed
- Assist in screening patients, staff and guests coming into the facility when screener is busy or unavailable
- Perform other related duties as assigned or requested
