The Cook 1 position at Valor Hospitality plays a crucial role in delivering culinary excellence and enhancing the overall dining experience at the company’s hotels. Reporting to the Executive Sous Chef, Executive Chef, or Food & Beverage Director, this role involves preparing high-quality food items in accordance with established recipes, portioning standards, and food safety protocols. The successful candidate will work across various kitchen stations including broiler, sauté, fry, pantry, and expediter stations, ensuring all dishes are prepared consistently and efficiently. Attention to detail is paramount as food appearance and quality are central to guest satisfaction.

This role requires the employee to manage food preparation responsibly by monitoring stock levels, rotating perishables, and adhering strictly to sanitation standards to maintain a safe and clean kitchen environment. The Cook 1 is also expected to assist in controlling food costs by minimizing waste and efficiently utilizing available resources. The hours for this position are typically from 6am to 1pm, making it suitable for individuals who prefer morning shifts. Job Requirements

  • High school education or equivalent experience
  • Six months to one year of relevant experience in food or beverage service
  • Must have strong knowledge of operating industrial sized ovens and cooking ranges
  • Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling
  • Knowledge of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Physical ability to lift, push or carry between 20 to 40 pounds
  • Ability to stand for long periods
  • Able to read, speak and understand English

Job Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent experience
  • Culinary certificate or degree preferred
  • Six months to one year in a food/beverage services environment or establishment
  • Strong knowledge of operating industrial sized ovens and cooking ranges
  • Knowledge of preparing different types of cuisines, relishes, soups and salads
  • Basic understanding of professional cooking and knife handling skills
  • Knowledgeable of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English
  • Able to lift, push, carry 20-40 lbs
  • Able to stand continuously for long periods of time

Job Duties

  • Prepare food of consistent quality following recipe cards, use records, production and portion standards, per order specs
  • Start food items that are prepared ahead of time, making sure not to prepare more than estimated needs
  • Remember all the multiple orders and easily assemble them to the order
  • Work all stations on kitchen line to include broiler, saute, fry, pantry, and expediter stations
  • Date all food containers and rotate as per the SOP, making sure that all perishables are kept at proper temperatures
  • Check pars for shift use, determine necessary preparation, freezer pull, and line set up
  • Note any out-of-stock items or possible shortages
  • Assist in keeping buffet stocked
  • Return all food items not used on next shift to designed storage areas, being sure to cover/date all perishables
  • Assist in setting up plans and actions to correct any food cost problems
  • control food waste, loss and usage
  • Perform other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management
  • Work hours from 6am to 1pm
